Harry and Draco are more alike than shows on the surface, I think. They're both great at sports, for one thing. And yeah, they both had abusive childhoods, but in Draco's case the abuse was far more subtle and IMO, dangerous, because it was reinforced by everyone around him. At least Harry got to go to school for a few hours every day. Then at Hogwarts, I think Draco expected to be a star because he was a Malfoy, and here comes this upstart who looks like a Muggle (who he's been brainwashed to hate his entire life), and on top of that, he's THE Harry Potter (who he's also been brainwashed to hate his entire life). And this kid rejects him. I don't care WHY Harry rejected him or whether it was justified or not, Draco must have been hurt. *hugs him*

Ron/Hermione is definitely canon, and I think will be completely established in the last book. Remus/Sirius is implied canon, because it's certainly more than just subtext. The problem that would have arisen if JKR had written R/S as an equal relationship to say, Molly/Arthur (although I think the closest correlation is Lily/James), it would have given the haters another reason to burn the books. It's not right, but it's true. :/

I love to hear other peoples thoughts on stuff like this. I ramble enough as it is, so it's only fair that people get to respond to my ramblings. *g* And I'll always have a soft spot for HP. I've made so many connections through fandom, it's unbelievable.
