I thought you would never ask. Actually I have never heard an Elton recording of this song. I do have a cd which has Elton covering a number of hits from 1969 but Bridge Over Troubled Waters is not on it. I assume though that he may have recorded it around the same time. Fortunately he and Bernie started writing and recording their own stuff and that was the end of Elton's "cover" days!!
