see her pass with grace on the water's face with clean and quiet pride

More icon descriptions, this time for [livejournal.com profile] chickadilly:

1.

The caption reads 'Does she not take wing like a living thing?'; it's a line from 'Bluenose' by Stan Rogers.

The ship in the image is the Nova Scotia Schooner Bluenose II, the 'daughter' of the original racing ship/fishing vessel Bluenose, which has a very cool history, not least of which is that her likeness has been on the Canadian dime since 1937. I use this icon when someone goes above and beyond to make their dreams real. [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo inspired this one, because she's just that awesome. :D

This isn't the original image I used; I couldn't find that one. It's close, though:

...and this is the song the lyric is from, with footage of the original ship:

Why yes, I DO have to turn everything into a history lesson, thank you very kindly. ;)

2.

Me, circa Christmas, 1973, with my brandy-new copy of Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road LP, one of my Best Presents Ever. I still have it.

3.

Elton and Bernie playing on the beach. I'm not sure exactly when the picture was taken. I'm thinking somewhere around 1974-ish. I love how happy they look.

4. 1964 VW bus, a.k.a. my dream car. Complete with split-screen windshield and engine in the back. Awesome as heck. Someday I might even own one.

5.

Ad for Look & Feel Canadian Breath Spray.

I actually ordered this, along with Believe in God Breath Spray. I made the icon a long time before that, though, after I'd caught my breath from laughing really hard. I might not ever open it, though, so I can't tell you if it works or not. Anyway, if I ever decide to become Canadian, I'll probably do it the old-fashioned way, even though it takes way, way longer. ;)
