From SFgate.com:

"So if a couple tried to take advantage of the federal law and was rebuffed, then someone may raise the constitutionality of that statue and argue that under the federal Constitution, it is unconstitutional to discriminate," [former state Supreme Court justice Joseph] Grodin said.

Under another scenario, Grodin said, the issue might jump to the federal level if another state questioned its obligation to recognize same-sex marriages authorized in California or Massachusetts.

"One way or the other, the issue of gay marriage is likely to reach the U.S. Supreme Court," he said.

This is why it's all being done, dontcha think? Gavin Newsom is giving this glorious display of civil disobedience for the same type of reason that Rosa wouldn't give up her seat to a white man. Equal rights, even if it has to go all the way to the U.S. Supreme court.

As a certain *ahem* candidate for the White House is fond of saying: Bring. It. On.

Oh, and the rest of the article, featuring PassTheBuck!Aahhhnold, is here.

Sorry for even more spam, but I had to share this:

"I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice. But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.' I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream to make room at the table of brother- and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people."

---Corretta Scott King, speaking in 1998.

Exerpt lifted from this post in [livejournal.com profile] gay_marriage. There are a lot of interesting links here. Go read!

I'd also like input on what people think about the GLBT civil rights movement vs the (still ongoing) civil rights movement of people of colour. I agree with this poster. I think there are a lot of similarities.

So, [livejournal.com profile] mr_tooby has the computer with my hard hrive on it down here in the basement. I have another upstairs (with HIS hard drive) in the warmth and the light. So, why do I sit down here freezing?

My playlist.

I am such a dork. Or a geek. Or both.

Also, I have just realised that if Hair is ever revived, I shall have to see it. Because I never have, and I just should.
