disturbing but necessary

Oh, wow.

Watch this video, and then tell me the US shouldn't sign a treaty supporting a global ban on landmines (some disturbing imagery, but nothing graphic).

Apparently the Major Networks are staying away from this video in droves, which figures, 'cause it makes Americans consider that our families can die violently just like everyone else. I thought we learned that particular lesson some three and a half years ago. Apparently not.:/

Hey, we`re Americans. It`s not in our job description to think before we act.

...or *not* act, rather (sorry for the double post - I`m breaking in my new Sidekick and I`m still pretty awkward with it)

US hasn't signed it yet? O.O I thought every other country EXCEPT US (GNNNRRRHH!) has done it already.

The excuses they give here is that we have a very long, very deserted border to, erm, next country and so few people to guard it and that's why we apparently need landmines (yeah, right). The other reason (which I find more believable) is that finding and digging up the existing gazillion landmines around the border would be a twenty years task. Because they've been putting landmines there as long as there have been landmines...

Bah, I can't view the video from my mac. Screw MSN for what was otherwise a fine article.
