Except that lots of pesticides? Don't affect humans. Like the stuff that's used on corn that comes from the bacterial species Bacillus thuringiensis. The pesticide is only active in basic conditions, and our digestive system is incredibly acidic, so it has no effect on us.

these are the 36 pesticides found on strawberries. Which ones are harmless? Because, y'know, I love strawberries.

I just buy organic when I can. Ben's most likely right about most pesticides being harmless (he's a v. smart guy, that one, and knows about this stuff *g*). But still, ALL pesticides can't be harmless, and I'm not taking a chance along those lines. So off to Whole Foods I go.

Once my university lets me search through the MSDS database again (grr, it's down for some reason), I can find out more about these chemicals.

I feel like I should point out that there's nothing wrong with organic food. But I think it's the care with which the farmers take for their crops that make them taste better than generic produce, not the chemicals themselves.

They actually do taste better. Although, it's a matter of, well, taste. [livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by's 8th grade class (he's going into 10th, now, but still) did a taste test for organic vs. not-organic, and figured out that those who have been raised eating organic foods like it better ([livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by being one of them). The opposite applies-those who were raised on conventional food like THAT better. I guess it's all a matter of what you're raised with. Although, I was raised with whatever was cheapest, being raised on the lower income side, and I still like Organic better.
