Just one reason I completely love Massachusetts (the fact that I was born there doesn't hurt, either *g*).

"Gay marriage has begun, and life has not changed for the citizens of the commonwealth, with the exception of those who can now marry," said state Sen. Brian Lees, a Republican who had been a co-sponsor of the amendment. "This amendment which was an appropriate measure or compromise a year ago, is no longer, I feel, a compromise today."

I guess people have noticed that the sky didn't fall on 17 May, 2004, y'know?

In other news, I bought this today. My only problem with it is that the cover is not brown, like the LP cover was. Ah, well. Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes. Turn and face the strain.

I just (like today) realised that Ian Gillan, who is Jesus in this recording, is the same guy who sang the vocals for (and helped write) Smoke on the Water. ROCK ON!

Yep, Ian Gillan was the lead singer for Deep Purple. You do also realize, don't you, that Judas is Murray Head, of "One Night in Bangkok" fame, and that Mary Magdalene is Yvonne Elliman, she of "If I Can't Have You"? No other version of JCS can possibly ever compare to that one. They need to just stop performing it and not fuck with perfection!

I hope they don't stop performing it--it's my favourite play!

But you're right. This version is the best. Murray Head is amazing as Jesus and I love Yvonne Elliman (who also sang with Eric Clapton on 461 Ocean Boulevard--so gorgeous).

I knew Ian Gillan was with Deep Purple but for some reason I thought Richie Blackmore was the vocalist for that song. *shrugs*

:) Let's talk...that would be great. [livejournal.com profile] franling will be with me, but I know you two will LOVE each other, and the fewer cars in Salem that weekend, the better, I'm thinking...so yes, let's try to work something out.

*hugs you like crazy*

Mmmm. Ian Gillian. He was teh hot. Now he's probably balding and middle aged, but aren't we all? God, JCS was huge when it came out, remember? All that meta in Newsweek and Time.

And I had the worst crush on Murray Head, who, shortly after JCS, was in one of the first gay movies I've ever had the pleasure of seeing: Sunday Bloody Sunday with Peter Finch and Glenda Jackson. Darling Murray played the hot boy who bed-hopped between them. Yummy.

and, Miss Mondegreen, it's "turn and face the strange changes..." You won't believe what I thought it was at first!

What do you mean things haven't changed? Now we're all going to hell!!!!

...unless, of course, Pat Robertson is a big dumb liar. :)

I always thought it was "turn and face the strange changes", too, from teenhood, but my daughter insists it isn't, and all the lyric sites seem to agree with her. I hope she's/they're wrong, because I like it better the other way.

There is that slight possibility. Hee.
