Boston Catholic Charities Halts Adoptions

*sigh*

I know it's the right of any religion to prohibit anything they want (even if I don't like it), but I'm still sad about this one. Especially since Catholic Charities doesn't want to stop, and unanimously voted consider gay and Lesbian applicants right along with every other prospective household.

In other news, my ALACE materials have arrived! It all looks v. interesting and I can't wait to get started! I've mailed off my payment plan contract and YAY!

And also, I'm still waiting to hear from Heart and Hands. Elizabeth Davis left a message on my machine (OMG ELIZABETH DAVIS CALLED MEEE![/fangirl]) explaining the tuition payments and also wanted to speak to me about whether I would be a good candidate for distance learning. I don't see why I wouldn't, but *shrug*. I called back and left HER a message. Now I'm just waiting. But whee! for things moving in the right direction.

Oh, and woah! I have lost fifteen pounds, y0. Not done yet, but, wow anyway. And this evening I'm going to the 13th birthday party of my friend's daughter Katy, who is sort of my (and DD Mary's) goddesschild. Her birth was the first birth I attended in a doula capacity (or ANY capacity besides being the one giving birth). *celebrates* Thirteen years. 'Bout time I actually became what I want to be when I grow up, huh?

And at this time next week I will be in (hopefully) sunny Atlanta with my [livejournal.com profile] patchfire and her lovely family.

Life, at the moment, is good.

ETA: WOAH. Mere minutes after I finished this post, Elizabeth called back! She thinks I should do well in the distance programme. I should be enrolling by 1 April. That loud whoop you heard? Was me.

I AM SO EXCITED LIEK OMGOMGOMG!!!!

WOOHOO, congratulations! That's very cool!

So, how exactly would this work? You do a course by distance ed, okay, but then, I trust there's someone there to supervise you the first time you deliver a baby? I'll be interested to know how this goes for you! :)

This course is just the beginning. After this I'll be able to enroll in the National Midwifery Institute. Their curriculum includes "Supervised apprenticeship providing clinical experience meeting the requirements of North American Registry of Midwives’ Certified Professional Midwife (NARM CPM) credential and California Midwifery Practice Act." So yeah, after that I'll be apprenticing somewhere. :)

Congrats on the 15 lbs! I'm trying to lose weight too, get back to my pre-college weight. Anyway, the one week you'll be in Atlanta, I won't be...how sad.

The weight coming off is cool, but I do have a crutch, in that I'm taking Adderall, which surpresses appetite. Which means often I have to make myself eat, and I really try to choose healthy, lowfat foods.

We're both doing new things at the same time! Yay! *hugs back*

The entire midwifery program, both the Heart & Hands and NMI programmes will take about three years, I think. I'm trying to focus on the process and not the outcome just yet (which I hope will be positive). *crosses fingers*

WOW! I'm seriously in so much envy right now! I have a friend who just enrolled in a doula class on The Farm, and now this.

I would love to go to The Farm to learn. I'm still thinking about doing one of their Farm Experience Weekends.

Congratulations and best wishes!

And yes it's getting worse; religious establishment is heading backward; prohibiting every possible progressive development.

Indeed.

I think adoption is such an important (and underpublicised) option for women faced with unwanted pregnancy as well as infertile couples, same-sex couples, singles, women with inheritable genetic disorders, etc who want to adopt. The more agencies available to provide adoption services, the better. I've also heard a lot of good things about Catholic Charities. It's not their fault, the blame goes waay higher up. Again, religions are religions and can do what they want. But geh. It makes me crazy, nonetheless.
