ZOMG, not a DEVIL BABY!

The sad thing is? In the US, she'd probably get her way.

There are actually some really cool superstitions around birth. One is that a baby born in the caul (born with an intact amniotic sac)will be have special powers or gifts. Not many babies are born that way anymore, what with artificial rupture of the membranes during birth, internal monitors, caesarean sections, etc. It's a v. cool superstition, though.

oh indeed, mythology is one of my specialties and i adore the oral traditions passed from generation to generation. in my doula-ing i was trained to support the labouring woman no matter what her beliefs.

i think, though, that when a parent cannot tell the difference between superstition and "clear and present danger" (and if the medical profession, moreover, is prepared to support that lack of distinction) there are significant problems afoot. i realize, though, how subjective i'm being in terms of what *I* believe to be clear and present danger as opposed to what others believe to be clear and present danger...

i'll go back to my books now where there is surer footing for this wee lass!! :D

HEY -- doug and i wish to send our condolences to you and your boston baseball people. i'm sure they'll rebound -- it's the way of all things.

Our pitching is just Not On right now, mostly. And we keep stranding men on base. But eh. We're (tied, dammit, with THEM) for first place. *sigh* Where's Louis Tiant when you need him?
