no man's a jester playing shakespeare 'cross your throne room floor

Paraphrased but accurate phone conversation regarding junior class play at [livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by's school:

[livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by: So you know how we're doing Macbeth this year?

[livejournal.com profile] primroseburrows: Yeah?

[livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by: So, guess who I'm playing?

[livejournal.com profile] primroseburrows: Um. Macbeth??

[livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by: Yep.

[livejournal.com profile] primroseburrows: *squees and gushes uncontrollably*

[livejournal.com profile] primroseburrows: You'll be careful, right? Don't do anything dangerous like climbing on high ladders and stuff.

[livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by: Okay.

When Dorks Collide. It's not a pretty picture.

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS.

He's going to be the Scotsman? I mean, McBeth? That's kinda cool - maybe Geoffrey will show up in the audience, it's a class play after all:)

Fortunately, it's a high school play, so it's 17-year-olds and not eight-year-olds. The scene with the kids doing Macbeth was really disturbing. I think it was meant to be, because, eep. Little kids doing a play about slaughter and assasinations and death. *shudders*

I've seen Macbeth onstage, but not with my own kid in the lead. :) I'm SO looking forward to it.

Wicked! (Heh. Had to get the "By the pricking of my thumbs" pun in there, y'know.) I LOVE Macbeth (though not quite as much as I love Hamlet). I've seen it onstage several times. How cool that he gets to play the Scot!!!

I've seen Macbeth once, and I really liked it. But I like Shakespeare, anyway. When I was in high school in Massachusetts our Drama club would go to see the Boston Shakespeare Company perform in this old, old church. It was very cool indeed.

Ach -- the Scottish PLay! I know it well...

But how is Mr t00by going to not say the name of the play? Cause you CAN'T! EVER! SAY! THE! NAME!

(Seriously, I have some susperstitions and that is one of them.)

Well, I did remind him to be careful and not go up on high ladders or do anything dangerous. He thinks I'm nuts. He may be right, but that's not the point. :)

Well, the more acting he does, the more he will find out about the "curse" of the Scottish play. I'm so bad that when the name of one of the characters (or the play itself) is an answer on Jeopardy, I won't use it (it's ALWAYS "The Scottish Play" in my house).

I did my acting in high school and college, but I don't think I got superstitious about TSP until college... which is when I played Ophelia in Hamlet. :D

He knows about the curse (being a Waldorf kid has its perks ;)), but he's 17 and doesn't care. I'm sort of supestitious about it myself, but I'm not IN the play, so I figure I can say its name.

You were Ophelia? How cool is that? I'm jealous.

[identity profile] alexisyael.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I never say the name, even not being in the play... the superstition runs deep in my veins (I probably didn't care when I was 16, but maybe at 17 I cared.)

Yeah, I was 'Phelia :D It was teh awesome! We had a female Hamlet, too (a role which I was also up for, but didn't get, mostly, I think, due to my lack of stature. I'd have made a kick-ass Hamlet! Tho I did love my Hamlet, she was awesome...)

I think I posted a pic on my blog at some point... let me scrounge around.... it could take a minute or two...

Hmmm... I found a review online: http://www.press-enterprise.com/newsarchive/1998/03/11/889574141.html

but I could not find pictures... I thought there was a picture of me in the archive of former productions at the theater page of my uni, but I can't find it...

That pretty much describes [livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by. He does something just because it's people tell him he shouldn't do it. Not that I don't want him to do it. I'm beyond pleased over here. *dances*

It is going to be taped, right? *wants to see*

I assume the school will tape it, but I'm going to make sure it gets done. Hopefully I can buy/rent/borrow a video camera (or are they just called camcorders these days?). I think Mary has one. I want everyone to go see it, too. You should come up. :)

Sometime in November. I'll call and ask when I get home from work. Gergh, day shift. :/

[identity profile] patchfire.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
*pets*

You know, if there's a Thursday evening performance (or, really, any weekday) and it's the right week, I might actually could come. My weekends in November are pretty much already full, unfortunately. But, yeah. I could fly up w/ J & G and then fly right back. :) Could we find a babysitter for J, though? I think G would get a kick out of it.
