My understanding is that Marilyn and Ed are both Tlingit, but they belong to the two different moieties within the larger Tlingit structure. I believe Marilyn is part of the Raven clan and Ed is from the Wolf clan. (See this Wikipedia article.) I forget if this is actually explained on the show or if I read it in an interview or article somewhere (or possibly made it up).
Re: accents: not only are Holling and Shelly hilarious, I enjoy the fact that Very Very Texan Janine Turner is supposedly playing a woman from Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Hee!
She also looks like she could be related to Fraser, which brings up all kinds of plot bunnies.
I...um. *also chases away plot bunnies* You're really quite correct there. I never noticed before. Also, she and Fraser would TOTALLY be BFF. Just as Fleishman and RayV would also get along like a house on fire.
The Call of the Wild is excellent. You can also read it in one sitting, which is nice. (And I totally didn't steal the plot from that episode for my first Fraser/Thatcher fic...not at all... *g*)
