You probably won't want to watch all of it unless you speak Portuguese, but it's worth a look. I'd heard it was maybe going to happen a while back, but I'm still not sure what I think of it.
I didn't make the icon, and I can't remember who did, either, so I can't credit. Alas.
I don't think I have a problem with it, either--and yeah, the amount I could understand is pretty frame-by-frame exact. My deal is that the original cast as a whole is a big part of why I love the show. Not that this isn't a good cast, I have no idea. I guess it's like QaF Brit vs. US. They're both really good, y'know?
1. Is't a little weird to watch it. 2. It's like a shadow of S&A. 3. Not a bad thing though. If they show the original version there too. If's a pity if they don't. 4. Dante is rather cute... I just don't feel the madness and the kind of passion Geoffrey has. 5. I don't see much sense in this kind of remakes (word-to-word). 6. It't nice to watch if you are strong enough not to compare it with S&A.
1. Yes. 2. I think this is one of the reasons I'm not sure about it. 3. Yeah, I was thinking that maybe it would make people want to watch the original. 4. Yeah, he is cute, but definitely not Geoffrey. The lack of original cast bothers me, though, because a lot of why I love S&A so much is the chemistry the cast has with each other. 5. QaF is a lot like that. The Brit version and the US version aren't very different, at least in the first couple of episodes. 6. Do you speak Portuguese? It's on my (long) list of languages to learn. I'd be really difficult not to compare the two shows, especially since the scripts are practically identical.

No, I don't, I can get a few words and that's it.
Ok, if you are strong enough not to compare the acting. :-)
I used to be fluent in Portuguese (Brasileiro even), but have lost the lingo in recent years. I can still follow most of it though.
As for what I think of it, I'll refer Meirelles's own words back to him when he said "We don't have a Paul Gross in Brazil" and went on to say that there is no-one with his charisma. All I can say is ...yeah. Still, I'm glad it's out there. There's not enough Slings and Arrows in the world, so an imitation (and this is what it is) can only be flattering.
It is making me crave the real thing though, it has been ages since I last watched it.
I guess Canada doesn't have a Meirelle, either, which, I dunno, 'cause I have no idea what he's like (except this, see above about not understanding Portuguese). But since there's probably a picture of Paul in the dictionary next to the word 'charismatic', I've gotta agree with you.
There needs to be a (Canadian) S&A watchathon soon. After the holidays, maybe.
Well those aren't my words, they're Meirelleseses! That said, I also saw City of God (did some work in the Shanty towns in Rio for a few weeks some years ago, so had a vested interest) and that was beyond brilliant. Som E Furia is a little weird though, as it's just copying another project. The original flair in directing will be kinda lost.
On a different note, I would LOVE an S&A watchathon! Name the date and time and I'm there (depending on the date and time). All this talk had also got me itching to see more new Paul as well.
