More birth fuckery, this time from Oz:

Overdue NSW woman gets police check-up.

The article starts, "Rochelle Allan, who is reluctant to be induced even though her baby is 12 days overdue, was told by the hospital they intended to go ahead with the procedure when she came in."(italics are mine).

Um, yeah. Like 12 days overdue is a horrendous amount. And like anyone has the right to violate someone else's. a;dfhasd;fhasd.

I'm less cynical about this one than I would be if the same thing had happened in the US. It's a weird story. I mean, did she tell the hospital that she wasn't showing up and they sent the police? Did she know she was scheduled in, not tell them she wasn't coming, and then just not show up? I might be worried if I had a pregnant person that overdue who just didn't show up for an appointment without any notice that she wasn't coming. But it's still bizarre and quasi-coercive.

Apparently the Australian Medical Asociation is doing a real smackdown on home birth, something that looks like it might end up being even WORSE than US home birth laws. The mind boggles.

It gets worse.

The scare tactics being used are from an apparently flawed study (and I believe it, since I've never heard of outcomes like the ones the AMA are giving out as facts). Gah.

My favourite part was the first article saying she'd 'complied' with previous appointments. WTF? You ATTEND appointments. You know, because they're supposedly voluntary. Oh, wait, that's only for people who get to make their own decisions about their bodies.

Oh, wait, that's only for people who get to make their own decisions about their bodies.

Heeyeah. And everyone knows that the percentage of women worldwide who are entitled to actually manage their own pregnancies/births is--oh, wait. ONE HUNDRED.
