Please, please reassure me, flist. Tell me that Republican members of Congress are using the strongest, loudest language possible to condemn these acts. Because if they aren't, I'm really afraid for my country. And it's not because I'm a progressive. It's because I'm a US citizen and I'm more than a little nervous right about now. This is absolutely not about politics.

These aren't isolated incidents, obviously. The links I've posted are only a few examples. Someone with some kind of authority needs to tell them to STOP. And even if they do, I'm not sure it's not too late.

Yep. The good ol' US of A. Land of the free, home of the brave, freedom of speech, blah, blah, blah.

That's why there were rallies held to burn Dixie Chicks' CD's when the lead singer said she was ashamed to be from the same state as asshat Bush. And why the above posted crap is happening. Such a fortunate country compared to much of the world, yet so full of dumbasses.

Still, I blame a lot of the instigation on the American press. It's obvious from here the media and government are very much entwined, and this was a good example. So much bias and outright false reporting (ex. exaggerating issues with Canada's health care system and providing one-sided views), and people who don't know better are snowed by it.

We're sitting up here going, what the hell is wrong with you people?! Don't you get that this is a step in the right direction? Don't you get that this is going to help take care of people? It's as though many people expect perfection or nothing at all. :

Well, the press sure isn't helping any (and believe it or not two of my links are from Canadian sources), but no matter WHAT reason or what catalyst is causing this, it's up to the political leaders to condemn it. And I mean condemn, not just say, "oh, come on now, this isn't the American Way", which is basically all I've heard from Republican leaders.

What I meant about the media being so misleading was during this campaign. These people who are so pissed about what's happening...how many of them actually know what they're pissed off about? They think they know, but I'm betting they really don't know much about what the bill is.

And it is pretty stupifying that nothing is being done about this nonsense. However, there are a few politicians who are passionate about their views to the point of insanity, so...yikes. I think all you can hope for at this point is the police trying to catch on to and intercept some of these violent acts. :(

Well, definitely venues like FOX "news" were deliberately misleading, and it's outlets like FOX that the Tea Party and their ilk are watching.

They think they know, but I'm betting they really don't know much about what the bill is.

Oh, yeah. Anyone who thinks this bill is even close to a "government takeover" has been utterly misled.

I think all you can hope for at this point is the police trying to catch on to and intercept some of these violent acts.

I hope so, but the numbers are growing. On April 19 the NRA is holding a Second Amendment March", where who knows how many gun owners will descend on Washington. They obviously chose the date deliberately--it's the anniversary of not only the start of the Revolutionary War, but also of the Waco incident and the Oklahoma City bombing.

I don't know if you'll fit under my couch but you can hide on it.

And then maybe even start the process of getting the heck outta Dodge entirely. IDEK.

This too shall pass. Eventually people will calm down, although they'll still complain incessanty about it, blame the system and those who work within it, and take it for granted completely. They do it with public education, after all.
