OMG, when I was in jr. high, my friends and I spent HOURS and HOURS and HOURS playing Oregon Trail. It was a special perk for the "gifted" kids: if we finished our classwork, we could go to a little room near our class that had a computer -- and, incidentally, the only air conditioner window unit in the school outside the main office -- and play educational computer games. They all sucked except Oregon Trail. We brought Doritos and Mountain Dew and stored it at the back of the abandoned file cabinet. We kept the temperature somewhere around absolute zero. And two of my friends figured out how to hack into the main office's computers and alter attendance records and grades... but they didn't actually change grades. (It is, however, distinctly likely possible that they pulled a Ferris Bueller and subtracted several integers from all of our absences.)

I often died of dysentery. It was tragic.
