I really wish I could go to this ceremony.
It's hard to believe that something like this could have happened as recently as 1991. I mean, Native American graveyards have laws protecting and preserving them. Why isn't the same respect given to African-American graveyards? Is putting up yet another building more important than people's ancestral heritage? To the city of New York in 1991, it obviously was. Or maybe it was the people who first bulldozed the graveyard in the first place. Or maybe it was the people who let them do it.
Gah. I blame Christopher Columbus, when it all comes down to it.
I heard on the radio that the majority of these graves were those of children. Christ. It's no wonder that some of the descendants of the African slaves are demanding reparation. I think I would, too.

On a TOTALLY and COMPLETELY diffect tack, and since I never see you 'round the way lately, must ask if you saw the movie "Seabiscuit" over the summer months. It is, without a doubt, the best movie of the year and will remain so until RotK. It's what I like to call a "heart" movie because it slips in your heart and just blossoms there. Of course, all animals are precious to me so I'm predisposed to love any movie about an animal, but this was so much more. Just a celebration of the will to overcome. Not since "Titanic" have I actually cried in a theater. Not just the stray tear, but wracking sobs. Only this was so much sweeter because they were "good" tears. See it, dearheat, it you haven't. (And read the book too.)

I'm on at night, most of the time. Find me, find me!
