Apr. 1st, 2004 11:09 amRIP Alistair Cooke.
I've just got to know Mr. Cooke's work recently, driving home at midnight and listening to his "Letter From America" on the BBC. He spoke of so many things on these late-night vignettes, from his days as a war correspondent to JFK, to Charles Dickens' trying to sell "A Christmas Carol". The first time I heard "Letter from America", Mr. Cooke spoke of how he believed there is no "Iraqi People"; rather, there are three separate peoples trying to live in an artificially constructed Nation, and suggested that if there were three countries instead of one, there would be less dying. I like that, and I was impressed with his wit, his words, and his long career.
Also, d00d! I was approved for my mortgage, and will be most likely moving within the year...more to come on that front, but squeee!
