Things I did today

1. Had a four-dollar cup of coffee (I kid you not! O'course, I didn't know that until I finished drinking it).

2.Went to a couple of panels, one about how the future will look back at the 20th century, one about what would happen if JFK had not been asassinated (v. cool, btw).

3. Went to the Locus awards panel. Remember how I mentioned that Terry Pratchett would be speaking/signing books/yadda here, and that's one reason I decided to go, last minute? Well. He recieved a couple of awards from Locus. And, I got to sit two rows behind him and Neil Gaiman. *drops half-dead from intense fangirling* I had NO idea he was going to be here. Now I can get my copy of GO signed by BOTH of them.

4. Bought a A Disturbance of Fate by Mitchell Freedman, which is about what might have happened if RFK hadn't been asassinated (the author had been at the earlier panel and it looked v. cool...and it's something I've always
speculated about.

5. Read the first four chapters of Dark Tower VII. No, moonlight_69, that isn't a typo. *is completely spent*


And Oh! I have the entire weekend off, so I can stay for the whole thing if I want to (read: if I don't run out of money and my kids don't kill me)

I have always been far more interested in what would have happened had RFK not been assassinated as compared to if JFK had not been assassinated. Possibly because I don't think that things would have been rosier in Vietnam and etc, as people seem to think about a full JFK term or two.

I think it is rather funny that you are more connected to things there than I am at home, thanks to my phone and emails. *stabs*

I probably won't be able to finish all of it before I come home, since I have to sit right next to the artist's table while I'm reading it. This will bode badly for me when I get back because I'll be in the middle of the book! :/ Still, I'm not complaining, not at all. :D :D :D

Yep, me too. JFK wouldn't have been the martyred prince; he'd have been just another president. Add that to the fact that his numbers were declining and the whole reason he went to Dallas in the first place was to try to pick up his declining poll numbers in the South.

JFK wasn't really all that different, aside from his age and his religion. Bobby,, now there was the different one. He was pretty hawkish on Vietnam during JFK's presidency, but by 1968 he'd changed his tune and moved a lot further left. So, so many things would have been different had he lived, because woah! He just might have become president. :D

Even if he hadn't become president, he would have done much more to change the face of politics, IMO. The whole "Black & Blue" coalition is something that's not well-articulated at all anymore, at least down here, and I think his presence and his insight would make a big difference as to whether or not the South was Democratic still or not. Honestly. :)

Now I am all bummed that you have access but cannot beta the ficlet I just wrote. :P
