Where would one go for a good workshop in the New England area on writing Speculative Fiction? Original, mind you, not fanfic. I'm also interested in any books, mags on the subject.

I know you writers on my flist probably have some idea...?

I don't know of any workshops, but my advice is that while you're looking for one, engage in intensive research on your favorite Topic of Speculation, and start writing! You'll probably be light-years ahead of at least half the students in the class, when you do find one. I may not be a fan of fanfic, or even a fan of fic, but I'd enjoy reading your spec-fic!

By Speculative Fiction do you mean sort of like science fiction? For that any of the short story mags (Asimov's, Analog, etc.) are worth reading, and check out the workshop Viable Paradise, held up in Martha's Vineyard; it's a really great workshop led by some amazingly wonderful SF pros (editors and writers) that might be what you're looking for.

Oh, great! Thank you! I'm planning on subscribing to Locus, which sounds great, and won a Hugo this year for Best Semipro 'zine.

There were reps from Asimov's and others at Worldcon as well.

And yeah, speculative fiction includes Science Fiction, but it's not limited to it. I think I'm more of a dark fantasy person, by virtue of what I read, although reading and writing are two different things.

I think if I ever get to ask JKR one question, it won't be about HP (dark fantasy in its own right. Write?), it'll be "what books do you like to read?"
