If anyone knows any sure-fire remedy (or even not-so-sure-fire) to stop this annoying and sort of painful cough I've got so I can get some actual sleep tonight, I'd really like to try it.

I have a double shift on Saturday, an' all. The Robitussin isn't cutting it, d00ds. I'm even keeping the dog awake.

Also, GIP.

Hope you feel better shortly! *hugs*

When Jacob has had bad coughing, he's been given a prescription for liquid albuterol. It also comes as in inhaler thingy. It's really for opening up air passages when someone is wheezing, but for whatever reason, it stops his coughing much better than Robitussen ever did.

Yeah, albuterol helps lots with asthma, but mine's aplain old garden-variety Upper Respiritory Infection. What I really need is something with codeine in it. The only problem is I'm hypersensitive to anything except small doses of codeine, so bleh. :/

Hoping that you'll feel better soon, babe. I get that chest-searing Hack O' Doom pretty much twice a year: at Christmas, and then again at the end of Feb/beginning of March. Mine's a low-grade bronchitis, which I help so much by smoking, I know. (In my defense, I try to not smoke while the Hack O' Doom is around.) Have you tried Vick's 44? It works a bit better for me than Robitussin because it's got so much fucking alcohol in it. Maybe it's a psychological thing -- the burning sensation of the alcohol makes me believe something worthwhile is happening in there. Actually, shots of brandy or whisky work just as well, and taste marginally better. If you have the time to devote to the sleepage that ensues, codeine is massively helpful, but it tends to put me in a coma for about 3 days, so codeine before a double shift is kinda ill-advised. (Also, you have to go to the doctor and admit that you're sick, and then he berates you about smoking, so then you get high blood pressure and guilt on top of the hack... oh, wait, that's me again.) Nyquil also works for me; it doesn't kill the cough per se, but it puts me to sleep (not in a coma)....

Good luck with finding a remedy!!

See above comment about codeine--any dose larger than Tylenol 3 and I'm tossing my lunch big time. My whole family is hypersensitive to most opiates. Darn, we can never become junkies!

Vicks 44 sounds like a possibility. I suppose I should use my crunchy granola skills and MAKE a cough syrup, but I'm too lazy. Whiskey and brandy probably wouldn't go over well with the crowd at work. :/

Someone told me to try Apple Cider Vinegar. I've actually never done it. But maybe...

*hugs you*
