We had a similar saying on my college volleyball team: a crappy pre-game meant that it would be a great game. Somehow, it never really worked out that way. :-S

On the other hand, the Red Sox have defied conventional wisdom time after time, so why should this season be any different?

And bear in mind that I say this as someone who grew up in Cincinnati during the mid-70's and therefore still has nightmares aout Game 6 of the '75 World Series.

But hate leads to anger, and anger leads to resentment, and resentment leads to the Reds sucking like a vacuum cleaner every since the mid-70's.... Sorry, I have Star Wars on my mind right now.

Actually, I consider the clip of Fred Lynn waving his fly ball inside the foul pole one of the great iconic baseball images of all time. The fact that it happened against my hometown team only makes me slightly bitter. :-)

Well, since you're a Reds fan, you probably don't want to remember anyway. Just like I have NO IDEA who pitched/caught/etc. in game 7. Also, Pudge Fisk is right up there in my top five players evah.

Not always true. In 1984, the Tigers shot out of the box with what I think was something like a 30-win-2-loss record. The led the division wire-to-wire and won the Series 4 games to 2 (or was it 1?). *sigh* I got sprung...er, graduated that year, and what a lovely year it was.
