The old Pope was in favour of the Harry Potter books.


The new Pope says that Harry is undermining the soul of Christianity,.

Now, tell me this: If the Pope is God's Representative On Earth, shouldn't one Pope agree with another? Or does God change His Holy Mind depending on a whim of opinion? Just who's in charge here? Or maybe since Ratzinger said it before he moved up to Popedom, maybe it doesn't count? Um?

I also heard it on the radio, I think (I know it wasn't on TV--I haven't watched TV in months). The actual quote's not as bad as the mis-quote, but it still implies something anti-Christian about HP, which I think does not exist.

I still think I like the old Pope better.

I don't know. Pope John Paul II was might conservative in many subjects, while Pope Benedict XVI was part of the Second Vatican Council. I have high hopes for this papacy.

Actually, it wasn't meant to be an anonymous post. I'm just a flake who can't correctly fill out internet forms (apparently I can do it wrong twice!). And, I'm a she; my name is Persian and means precious jewel. *grins*

I'm similarly confused by the conflicting views of the Popes. But, I'm often confused by the Pope so that's nothing new.

The Pope is God's representative on Earth when it comes to making Canon Law. Unless Benedict XVI is planning on passing a law about Harry Potter, which is so unlikely it's not even funny, he's free to disagree with the last Pope on anything he wants without breaking any rules.
