Shouldn't EVERYONE who wants to donate sperm be tested for AIDS and that's that? And what about the fact that worldwide, most people with AIDS are heterosexual? *fumes*

What? They're worried someone might get impregnated with "gay" sperm?

Our blood donation system out here is like that, too- if you've had gay sex (and you're male), used drugs intravenously, had sex with an intravenous drug-user, or had sex with a prostitute in the last four years or something, you're not allowed to donate blood.

It pisses me off- my partner used to donate blood regularly, but he stopped when he breached one of those restrictions- and never started again. I just think: if they need donors so badly, why not get them tested and go with it from there? (The same could be said for sperm donors, too..)


I just don't get why HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis/etc is something that's seen to only affect a particular demographic of the community. Apaprently the highest increase in people getting HIV/AIDS is amongst heterosexual women- the group who tend not to think they're at risk. :/
