Ramirez Suspended 50 Games For Drug Violation.

I'm sure a lot of people who read about this (not you, flist, y'all are smarter than that) are going to immediately assume that this is a steroids thing, which apparently it isn't. And? I have no idea why, but I believe the guy. For one thing, he's never had a positive drug screen, and he takes a lot of them on purpose. And also because I'm probably liek, the only one left in Red Sox Nation who still has a soft spot for Manny. *sigh*

In other news, I went to the chiropractor on Tuesday and he did an adjustment and now my back, etc. feels somewhat better (translation: pain level lower than an eight for longer periods of time). I'm feeling well enough to do some housework today, which I need to do before [livejournal.com profile] songdog arrives.

Cleaning without running water is a challenge, but definitely doable (in case I didn't mention it, I lost running water a while back due to burst pipes, and can't afford to get it fixed yet). It's interesting, but I'm learning a LOT about water conservation and how much I was using, and how it's really not so bad having to work around it. I still manage to stay clean/fed/dressed in clean clothes. Schlepping water is pain, but at least I'm schlepping fresh, clear stuff and I don't have to walk ten miles to do it, which means I'm much better off than most people in the world.

P.S. I know I've missed a lot of my flist's posts lately; it's because I've been working/visiting family/having owies. If there's anything that I simply have to see or answer or know about, please tell me? I should be back to more thorough reading soon. :)

EEEEEEEEEEEEE!

P.S. I have the next few days off, so I'll be finishing up beta for [livejournal.com profile] sam80853, my [livejournal.com profile] ds_northernnews fic, anything that needs doing.

  • No g-word!baby yet. I'll let y'all know as soon as I can when s/he finally arrives. *SO EXCITED*

  • For us politics junkies, it's a wonderful time to be a dork. *crosses fingers for Australia and Canada* And yay, The Dalai Lama! I adore him even if the Chinese don't want me to.

  • Slept a good part of the day yesterday because of my evening-into-night double shift on Sunday. This is why I didn't get a chance to officially wish [livejournal.com profile] patchfire a happy birthday. I'm sure she knows I was thinking of her anyway, but I wanted to mention it here nonetheless. Because she's pushing thirty now, and you know how cranky some elderly people can get (And if she's elderly, I'm DEAD.) *hugs*

  • Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] patchfire, she and I both have decided that we need to learn to vid ASAP. So, what do you think, darling, maybe we could make up some kind of pseudocurriculum and learn it together that way?

  • Speaking of vidding (don't you love how all this randomness is almost bordering on the not!random? Go segues!), I've decided that since I only have a thousand other things to do, I'd do a post of some of my favourite vids. I'll probably do the non-dS vids first, and then do another post with just dS vids. And now you know. *g*

  • I did get a big chunk of my room cleaned last night. Another reason I didn't make a LJ post. If [livejournal.com profile] patchfire wasn't out celebrating being almost thirty she would have wanted to chat, and since she's too pretty to turn down I'd have stayed up chatting and not cleaning. Which would have been more fun, but not very productive. *sigh*

  • del.icio.us is fun and addictive and a huge time waster. I'm trying to get all my unbundled tags bundled and it's the main reason I stayed up too late last night.

  • Still on S5 of The Sopranos. I'm still loving the show, but I didn't appreciate the scene in 5x06 that as far as I'm concerned was bloody violence for the sake of bloody violence without really adding to the plot. I mean, yeah, what happened to the character throughout the whole episode sends his life into a tailspin but the violent act wasn't necessary because we already KNEW his situation was tanking and fast. It's a good show, it doesn't need gratuitous scenes like that. No love, Sopranos, no love.

  • Stephen Colbert on All Things Considered. Really. Listen to this interview. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY, I PROMISE YOU.

Example of why this man is not only an utter genius, but also the Left's best stealth weapon: "I'm on record as saying that reality has a well-known liberal bias." I can't wait to read his book.I want to marry him and have his little stealth genius babies.

  • If the sky doesn't fall (and maybe even if it does)[livejournal.com profile] peacey and I will be going back to Stratford in 2008 for Hamlet. Believe it or not, I've never seen this play all the way through, although I'm sure I've seen the whole thing in bits and pieces. I'm looking forward to it big time, because, Yay, Stratford!

It's a real shame my Wayback Machine is imaginary (and therefore nonfunctional) because then I could see this production.

  • [livejournal.com profile] sam80853, I'm plugging away at your beta. Fantastic idea for a fic, btw. Be prepared to be overwhelmed (or is that overcome) by the sheer wordiness of my beta skillz. You might just hate me forever for being OMG SO WORDY. *g*

  • Today's Website of Awesome: The Cats on the Hill have their own blog. ♥♥♥

ETA: According to the site, the address of the blogger (name of Klaus J. Gerken) is:

  • Okay, Wake, it's up to you.

I've had the basics of this post for days. Apparently I'm going through a lazy phase. Or maybe I'm just plain lazy.

  • First of all, [livejournal.com profile] stormymouse, I did indeed get your card and the gentlemen who came with it. You guys are the best ever. :) I'm a little afraid to try him out. I need some courage, dudes.

  • Fannish meme from [livejournal.com profile] aukestrel, among others:

    mix-'n-match meme )

  • Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] aukestrel: This thread makes me want to make a dS Tarot Deck. Like, a real one. I bet there are places online where you can put your own images on cards and things. Anyone know of one?

  • [livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by's birthday was yesterday. He's eighteen, OMG. Yesterday we went to the Chapel as one of his presents. We stood up almost the whole time because standing room has a much better view of the field than the bleacher seats. Two national anthems, three-ish hours and thirteen runs (nine of ours, four of theirs) later the Sox had won, which means that I can hold my head up in Toronto next week. The only problem is, now the Evil Empire is in second place. [livejournal.com profile] eltonroo, you must throw Good Wishes at your team so they can pull back ahead of the Yankees. Just the Yankees, mind you, and after today's game. Don't go getting carried away or anything.

  • Fannish Notice: [livejournal.com profile] scally has posted some high-quality screencaps from Murder Most Likely over here (three guesses which one is my favourite). Usually MML caps are blurry unless you make them tiny but these are sharp and clear and good-sized. [livejournal.com profile] scally has now taught me how to get the same results: stop the video before capping. It takes longer, but I tried it today on something else and it worked! Yay!

  • Speaking of picspam, these are gorgeous:four hi-res pictures under here )

Oh, Martha. They're from this play which I had no idea ever existed. I really, really wish I could have seen it. I need a way-back machine. More pictures are here. Left click on "right click to download" to see the hi-res versions or, um. Right click to download. :)

  • Still not have seen OotP. I was supposed to today, but the friend I was going with didn't call me and I have to work this afternoon anyway. Bleh.

  • My hair is short. Like short. Maybe I'll post a picture sometime if I can have someone take one I could bear posting. I like the hair, mind you. It's just pictures of myself in general I can't stand.

  • Still not sure who I'm voting for in the Democratic primary, although Dennis Kucinich is saying some interesting things about some of my top issues, like health care, NAFTA, immigration and climate change. I don't agree with his take on all of the issues but for the most part I think he makes a lot of sense. I don't think he has a huge chance of winning the primary, let alone being elected President, but boy, he makes me think. I have to look at everyone else, too; he's just the one I started with because [livejournal.com profile] songdog said I should. *g*

  • Two cool bits of trivia I learned recently:

    • Keifer Sutherland's grandfather was Tommy Douglas.
    • Andrea Yeager is now an Episcopal nun.

Also, OMG, Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] moonlight69! I'm only late by a few hours. What was I thinking? *hugs*

Meme where there's the possibility of giving long wordy answers. How can I resist? By way of [livejournal.com profile] ceilidh, who has one of my favourite usernames. :D

Comment with the name/title of a fandom I'm aware of (if I don't know it, I'll tell you, unless you want me to make something up, which I highly doubt, although it would be fun to try. *g*), no matter how obvious you think the answers will be, and I'll reply to you with the character I love best and why, and maybe who I ship them with. Also, you're free to reply in subthreads and ask me why I ship or don't ship something. In fact I encourage it. *g*)

Also, GO TIGERS! Because the Cards beat my Mets, and because I love underdogs, and especially because I adore my [livejournal.com profile] peacey so much. And the Tigers deserve it. They've worked so hard the past, oh, couple of years, really, to earn the chance for the ring.

And GIP!.

Yes, that's mine, and I love it a lot. I get at least one compliment a day on it. People always are asking what it means, which of course is my chance to do some serious pimping in the guise of information. If it weren't for [livejournal.com profile] moonlight69, I'd still be sitting here with a bare wrist. *loves*

From [livejournal.com profile] redsox, an exerpt from The Mind of Bill James, about Grady Little and the decision that, right or wrong, cost him his job:

"Near the end of the seventh inning of Game Seven, with Boston in control, my mind drifted back to the eighth inning of Game Seven the year before. Aaron Boone should never have had the chance to end Boston’s season in extra innings. Pedro Martinez was 115 pitches into the red, jammed up after back-to-back hits to Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams. The Sox had relief help available, but manager Grady Little left Pedro on the hill.

A week later I heard a story that said it all.

A devout Red Sox fan got stuck in London on business at the time Game Seven was to be played. He went from pub to pub, looking for one with the necessary satellite equipment and that was going to be open all night. He didn’t find any that were good on both counts, but he found one with a satellite and an owner who agreed to stay open for a price. The fan settled in to watch the game.

It was near daybreak in London as Pedro gave up hit after hit and the lead slipped away, the Sox fan raging and writhing in agony while a half-dozen Brits drank away the night. Finally one of the inebriated Londoners looked over at him in concern, looked back at the television, and asked, 'Excuse me, sir, but would the rules permit those fellows to employ a substitute for the bowler? He seems to be laboring a bit.'

Grady Little had failed to comprehend what was apparent to a drunk, half-asleep Englishman who had never seen a baseball game before. Pedro was toast."

*snickers*

Yeah, I know, a lot of you don't get it. Get used to it, it's baseball season.

random survey obviously written by a teenager, age probably around 14, answered by Primrose, age 44 and three quarters. )

And! Opening Day was thwarted for me because I have no radio, my telly is cable-less at the mo', and the online audio program was down. But we won, so all is grand anyway. *cheers*

*EDITS TO ADD # 2, 3, and 4 TO THE MEME BECAUSE I AM A t00b AND DELETED THEM*
primroseburrows: (manny)
Manny, darling, I adore you, but fergodsake, would you please make up your mind?

I'm really not sure I believe that he doesn't remember talking to ESPN reporters. It just sounds like he was being himself again. Which I keep telling myself is one of the reasons I love him so. And it is. It's just--geh. I'm angsting like crazy over here. Grr.
