• CHURCHFAIL: I missed church today because I mistakenly thought the service started at 9:30, when it actually started at 9. I got there at like 9:03 and didn't want to barge into choir without having rehearsed this morning OR on Wednesday night (which was thankfully an excused absence) so I left without even getting out of my car. There was an 11:00 service I could have gone to but I was too embarrassed to do it. Hopefully I can explain myself adequately this Wednesday.
  
  
• Yesterday I saw Capitalism: A Love Story at the Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge. As much as Michael Moore has his issues, I'm usually charmed and informed by his movies, and this one was no exception. I still might make a more indepth post about it, but the best thing I learned was what an amazing guy FDR was, and how radically different the world would be if he had lived to make his dream of a Second Bill of Rights real.
  
  
• After the movie I went to Shabu-ya in Harvard Square for dinner. I had been looking for Shilla, where I always go when I'm in Harvard Square; apparently it has recently merged with another place owned by the same family into a shabu-shabu restaurant. Since I had no idea what shabu-shabu was or even that this particular place served it, I went with maguro sashimi and yummy seafood-scallion pancake. Nom nom. I sort of hate the Star Trek TOS-type decor, but the food was really good, so I'll definitely go back.
  
  
• Firefox has been sucking recently--constantly crashing on me for no apparent reason. Is anyone else having the same problem or is it something to do with my computer? I suppose I should reinstall it to see if that helps, but I've been lazy about it.
  
  
• Dear Flashpoint: Cop shows aren't supposed to make me cry. I forgive you completely, however, because you are love with a side of awesomesauce.

It's kind of obviously about residential schools (as much as any Hip song can be said to be about any one specific thing), but it also fits in with the themes of the episode really well. ♥Flashpoint

Stuff noticed while watching Northern Exposure (I'm in the middle of season 3 atm):

• You can tell when the outdoor winter scenes are filmed out of season because you can't see anyone's breath.
  
  
• Chris is supposed to be 28 in 1992, but he says he was seven in 1968. that would make him 31.
  
  
• They got Holling's age right, but erm. Where did a Vincoeur from Québec get a Southern drawl?
  
  
• Ditto Shelley. Did I miss the memo about how Saskatchewan packed up and moved to Mississippi? Wayne The Hockey Player, Shelley's ex, has a twang, too.
  
  Maybe it's like South Park, only instead of having bisected heads, the Canadians on this show all talk like patchfire. Oh, teh irony. Yeah, I really do think.
  
  
• Maggie looks like Leah Collins. She also looks like she could be related to Fraser, which brings up all kinds of plot bunnies. *chases off bunny that wants to bring Leah to Cicely*
  
  
• Marilyn is becoming one of my very favourite characters ever, despite the fact that she hardly talks. Fraser and Marilyn would like each other a lot, I think. I can SO see her becoming Fraser's BFF. See above re: kinds of plot bunnies.
  
  
• Nobody ever says what tribes Marilyn and Ed belong to (they're from two different ones, apparently). Maybe they had to get permission to use the name and either didn't ask or asked and weren't allowed? Also, Ed? Is my other favourite NX character.
  
  
• Now that I've heard Chris read part of it, I suddenly want to read The Call of the Wild.
  
  
• Speaking of Chris, there's this one ep where he shows up at the end wearing a suit with his hair cut. At the beginning of the next show he's got the long-and-scruffy look back. Hmm.

I can't believe I never watched this back in the day. But then I never watched that other show that everyone confuses with it, either. wtf?

I've had the basics of this post for days. Apparently I'm going through a lazy phase. Or maybe I'm just plain lazy.

• mr_t00by's birthday was yesterday. He's eighteen, OMG. Yesterday we went to the Chapel as one of his presents. We stood up almost the whole time because standing room has a much better view of the field than the bleacher seats. Two national anthems, three-ish hours and thirteen runs (nine of ours, four of theirs) later the Sox had won, which means that I can hold my head up in Toronto next week. The only problem is, now the Evil Empire is in second place. eltonroo, you must throw Good Wishes at your team so they can pull back ahead of the Yankees. Just the Yankees, mind you, and after today's game. Don't go getting carried away or anything.
  
  
• Fannish Notice: scally has posted some high-quality screencaps from Murder Most Likely over here (three guesses which one is my favourite). Usually MML caps are blurry unless you make them tiny but these are sharp and clear and good-sized. scally has now taught me how to get the same results: stop the video before capping. It takes longer, but I tried it today on something else and it worked! Yay!

• Still not have seen OotP. I was supposed to today, but the friend I was going with didn't call me and I have to work this afternoon anyway. Bleh.
  
  
• My hair is short. Like short. Maybe I'll post a picture sometime if I can have someone take one I could bear posting. I like the hair, mind you. It's just pictures of myself in general I can't stand.
  
  
• Still not sure who I'm voting for in the Democratic primary, although Dennis Kucinich is saying some interesting things about some of my top issues, like health care, NAFTA, immigration and climate change. I don't agree with his take on all of the issues but for the most part I think he makes a lot of sense. I don't think he has a huge chance of winning the primary, let alone being elected President, but boy, he makes me think. I have to look at everyone else, too; he's just the one I started with because songdog said I should. *g*
