I just read a very interesting article in Bitch (http://www.bitchmagazine.com/) (issue no. 27) that put this whole "mean girls" craze in perspective. I highly recommend picking up a copy, if you can. Unfortunately, they don't have that particular article archived on the website, but it's worth the $5 to pick up a backissue.

Sorry, I was unclear. Not a craze of girls being mean, but a media hype-fest of, "ooh, look at this! Girls are mean! It's a scary new trend! We need to write lots of books about it and create concerned news stories, and talk about yet another reason why them dern girls can't be trusted nohow."

Whatever sells, right?
