I'm off to work. Getting up early is worth every stumbling second because I'll be home at 4pm! No more evening shifts unless I want them/get frozen in (which will happen, I'm sure). I start my writing course on Thursday evening. Yay for lots of Things to Do in the Evening that Aren't Work. This is a quickie beginner course, but I'm hoping I'll get some ideas for original stuff from it. Maybe make some connections for group work, as well.

And of course, happy birthday to Jo and Harry. You guys make me smile. And sometimes cry. *lights candles*

It's actually more hours (80 hours in two weeks as opposed to 64), but I don't really think I'll notice because it's during the day. 7 to 3:30 is so much better than 3-11:30. One shift extra per pay period and I should be making money enough for an actual start of a savings.

First shift has definite advantages over second shift, although for those of us who are at their most creative in the morning, it does kind of S-U-C-K to have to rip yourself away from writing. At best it's frustrating, at worst, it feels no less than an amputation (when you're really in the zone and pounding out good stuff). Many a morning I've driven into work spitting mad because how dare the work that I loathe infringe itself on the work that I love! I've come to some kind of semi-middle ground though. When I go into work, I plop into the chair and dig out all my 4x6 notecards, read them over, organize, and write down ideas for scenes, twists, characters, etc. Then by the time I get home at 6pm I'm ready to go. If I'm not a zombie. Which I usually am.

Proud as all get out at the writing class you're taking! And so excited for you! Using other people's characters as the basis for stories is fantastic for practice, but there is no joy like nurturing your own originals. You fall in love with them. They're no less than your own babies, with all the inherent joys and miseries that come with children. I'm in total love with my three mains and it is going to kill me when I have to kill one of them off. He's totally turning into my favorite, too. And I'm wondering if, in order to be true to the story, I'm going to have to kill another one. Or at least hurt him really badly. Wah.

Love, love, love ya, dahlink. *airkiss*

It's like Neil says: Fanfiction is training wheels. I love writing it, but I eventually want to take them off. Not that I won't return to them sometimes, for the sake of auld lang syne. :)

I hate having to do work-for-pay in the morning because that's my peak writing time. That said, though, when I do get stuck with morning classes (and then the office hours), I can come home, take a nap, and try to jump-start the day again. And it does make scheduling doctor/ dentist/ GYN appointments easier.

Yay for free evening hours and a shift that works for you! It's amazing ow a change in your job hours can make all the difference. A couple of years ago I went from 10-6 to 7:30 - 4:00. I ended up with more hours but it was so much better.

The writing course sounds interesting. Good on you! I hope you enjoy it.

I don't even know if I'll notice the more hours. I think it might seem like less, even.
