Car Update:

Well, it's in my driveway, and it runs. A new set of rear brake shoes set me back $101.96. I need a new E-brake, which will run $200-$400, and my clutch is headed for the great gig in the sky, which would mean another $700 or so. So, erm. It looks like I'm getting another car.


Let the search begin. Oh, deardear.

For what it's worth, I have a 1985 Vovlo 240 with 190,000 miles on it, and though it needs a fair bit of upkeep (just replaced the brakes at $500 b/c the fluid line was cracked, and had to replace the battery since it was still the original), it runs really reliably (I only noticed those two repairs since I failed inspection) and has decently good mileage. I see a lot of the old 240s on the road (a LOT), so there seem to be a lot that are also still in good condition. Could be a good investment?

I found my Saturn on yahoo auto trader. I bought it from a dealer with 18,000 miles on it for $8,000. It had everything -- cruise, power locks, cd player, AC, etc. You enter your zip code and then enter how far you're willing to go to find a car. I said within two hours and I found this beauty only 40 minutes away.
