Meme from [livejournal.com profile] taradiane:

Go to Wikipedia and look up your birth day (excluding the year).

List three neat facts, two births and one death in your journal, including the year.

I did four, three, and two because I couldn't decide between the last two births and was tired of wibbling and because I'm a bleeding rebel.

FACTS

1851 - Harriet Beecher Stowe's anti-slavery serial, Uncle Tom's Cabin or, Life Among the Lowly starts a ten-month run in the National Era abolitionist newspaper.

1956 - Elvis Presley introduces his new single, "Hound Dog", on The Milton Berle Show, scandalizing the audience with his suggestive hip movements.

1968 - U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy is shot at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California by Sirhan Sirhan. (He dies on June 6). Yep, we lost one who could have changed the world.

1977 - The Apple II, the first practical personal computer, goes on sale.

1981 - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that five homosexual men in Los Angeles, California, have a rare form of pneumonia seen only in patients with weakened immune systems.

BIRTHS

1850 - Pat Garrett, American Western lawman (d. 1908)
1919 - Richard Scarry, American children's author (d. 1994)
1971 - Mark Wahlberg, American singer and actor (Yeah, that's right. Marky Mark was born on my tenth birthday. Deal with it.
1980 - Draco Malfoy, heir to the Malfoy Fortune.

DEATHS

2002 - Dee Dee Ramone, American bassist (The Ramones) (b. 1952)
2004 - Ronald Reagan, former President of the United States (b. 1911)

Trivia!

If anyone knows what my current music has to do with the content of the meme, I'll write something for you. Something small. More than a sentence, less than a book. Yeah, I know. You're all overcome with joy.

I got the Pat Garrett connection to Billy the Kid. In fact didn't Bob Dylan have an album called "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid"?
Anyways I love that Billy Joel song -- especially the live version on "Songs from the Attic". I got to see Billy Joel live in the 80s and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Unfortunately he has not aged as gracefully as Elton or remained as musically relevant.

I love Billy Joel. I remember (my sweet romantic teenage) nights sitting in my bedroom with Elton and Billy and the Beatles and my revolving coloured nightlight. Better than drugs, aye, it was. Ah, wistful memories.

Billy may look like a bus driver now, but I love him nonetheless. :) And it's way cool that lovely daughter [livejournal.com profile] i_am_a_hannah loves him as well. Two generations of women with fine musical taste. Yay!

Well he and Elton are the two greatest piano playing song writers of all time in my humble opinion. I love some of his lesser known songs such as "Great Suburban Showdown" and "James".
And of course some of his classics like "Goodnight Saigon". Glad your daughter likes him. My daughter is not into Elton or Billy but atleast likes the Beatles so there is some hope.

I discovered "James" on WEEI-FM in Boston when it first came out. That was a great station. I mean, this station played "Snow Queen." How obscure can you get? Now it's a sports station, which is lovely from April to October, but in winter? Alas, earwax.

Speaking of sports. My Jays just blew a 6-0 lead and lose 9-8 to Tampa of all teams. Vernon Wells hits two homers in a losing cause. Sure hope AJ Burnett gets healthy quick.
p.s. Jays go into Boston next Tuesday for an afternoon game. Lucky for you that Josh Towers is pitching. He got rocked by Minnesota on Wednesday.
*sighs*

Oh, and what do you want me to write for you? I can do prose, rants, fanfiction, stories, whatever. Just not long ones, 'cause I'm swamped for time these days.

Just seeing your icon is reward enough so you do whatever moves you.
p.s. Jays (2 and 1) open big series against the mighty Devil Rays tonight.

Sox over Baltimore (Kevin Millar in orange and black, waaah, I miss him!) in the series opener 14-8. Whee!

I'll think of something soon, but in the interim you may want to read something I wrote a couple of years ago, after my boys didn't win the ALCS again. (Oddly I didn't write when we actually took the whole shebang). It took me ten minutes, was written so all my railing and ranting could go somewhere besides my blood pressure) and it might just be the piece of my own writing that makes me the proudest:

To Reach the Unreachable Star

An excellent piece of writing indeed. And it obviously worked as the curse was finally broken. Now maybe you could write something that will lead to my Toronto Maple Leafs winning the Stanley Cup. It will be 40 years of futility come next year and I think that is just about long enough. (and we don't have a curse to blame it on -- just lousy management, scouting and players).

I have an idea...it will take a few days.

I'm afraid I don't know enough about the Maple Leafs to write anything, alas.
