Belated birthday drabble for
sam80853. It's not the one I started to write. This one I did immediately after waking up from dreaming that Geoffrey, Oliver, and Ellen were all living in a house I used to own. Sort of. Dreams are funny. And I seem to remember telling people that S&A doesn't NEED fic, because it's complete and doesn't have loose ends. Which it doesn't. Er. *blames muse*
Anyway, this one's for you, kiddo, such that it is.
SPOILERS FOR THE LAST EPISODE OF SLINGS & ARROWS. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ALL THREE SEASONS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
In between the quiet, Geoffrey can almost hear him.
That's not how I would have done it.
I told you so.
What kind of fool costume is that?
Really, Geoffrey, why can't you see that the role's too much for her? It's a miracle she can even dress herself in the morning.
Except he can't, really.
The words are an echo, a memory of sound, entirely inadequate. Signifying nothing.
A fool of a man missing someone who was only half-there in the first place.
Tonight, lying awake in the darkness, he hears his own voice in his head, clear as ice.
I miss you, Oliver.
I love you.
In between the quiet, he can almost hear the echoed reply:
I love you.
Be happy, Geoffrey, for both of us.
For all of us.
He turns, pulls Ellen closer. She wraps herself around him in sleep, a soft smile on her face. He kisses her shoulder. Closes his eyes.
The rest is silence.

Date: 2008-06-03 08:54 pm (UTC)It's a lovely story! Thank you!
I think S&A does need fic. I write S&A stories (and poetry) too and I really enjoy it. The show cover several important topics that should to be discussed. And it's just great show with wonderful character you want to meet again and again. That's what fics are for.

Date: 2008-06-03 09:16 pm (UTC)What I meant by 'doesn't need fic' is that S&A doesn't need anything added to it to make it complete, because it's all there in the show. Discussion and fic to add to the wonderfulness and wonder what happens next, what happened before, yes, definitely.
