A few months ago, [livejournal.com profile] songdog played this song for me. It took me a bit to get who was singing it because I wasn't even thinking in that direction, but when I figured it out, I did my best impression of a human flycatcher. Because oh, my, if this isn't a little miracle:

Elton John - Bridge Over Troubled Water

It sounds like a demo, with strings that may or may not be Paul Buckmaster's. [livejournal.com profile] eltonroo, do you know where and when this was recorded? It sounds old, very old, which means it was recorded by baby!Elton.

I finally got to see Paul Simon in concert in 2002. Two childhood friends (they are brothers) took me and we had great seats up close to the stage. Paul and his band were outstanding.

I've seen him twice. He's an amazing talent. And such a poet.

And would you believe that Paul's "openning act" was Brian Wilson? He came out ten minutes before the concert was scheduled to start (the place was only half full) and proceeded to deliver an amazing set. It was better than having the Beach Boys themselves as Brian had a great young band who could really do the old Beach Boy harmonies. And to top it all off, during the encore the Barenaked Ladies (a great Canadian band) came out and backed Brian for a couple of Beach Boy classics. The crowd went nuts.
Boy I love concerts.

I heard about that. Did Brian join BNL for a rousing chorus of "Brian Wilson"?

As I recall, Brian's own band played a little of that song at the openning of the concert. Very cool.

Very cool, indeed. Of course, now I've got that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
