I was just saying that he belongs to Canada with that dorky attitude but he's singing a German song

He spent three months in Munich last Winter/Spring. He came back fluent in German and actually had to ask me how to say a few phrases/words in English. It was very amusing. He hasn't ruled out Canada in the future, so who knows. Although we do need our dorks in America, too. :)

*g* Seems like the Wise Guys translated the song pretty much word for word, which sounds very funny... "Schlag mich" is the correct translation for "hit me", but it sounds much more like "punch me" or "beat me".

I like the word Schlag. It has oomph. Or something.

[livejournal.com profile] mr_t00by says "Heilige Scheiße" all the time even though he says he knows nobody really says it like that. He just thinks it's funny.

Well, the thing is that it's the direct translation basicallly, but quite literally. Like it says "Sag's mir, baby, weil ich brache zu wissen" which means "Tell me now, cuz I need to know" but like LITERALLY. In German you'd say "Ich muss wissen" which means "I must know". No other languages say "I need to" literally. That's why it's funny, cuz it's a comple literal translation that barely makes sense.

Well, actually you'd say "Sag's mir, denn ich muss es wissen/weil ich das wissen muss" ;) It reminds me of a game we used to play in English class, where did a similar thing, only the other way round. My favourites were "May I give you a wheelbeat?" and "My lovely Mr. Singing club" *g*

Do you know the Rio Reiser song I stand on you? The lyrics are hilarious, check them out.

And eleven schmeleven- Beau Starr is mine!

Dude. Beau Starr belongs to the world. *g* I just looked up his bio and found out he was in two episodes of Providence, which means that OMG the incestuousness extends south of the 49th. Woah.

Yes. Because I am a GEEK and get off on irregular conjugations and genderfucked nouns. English is the a linguistic eunuch, after all. We just say "it" and "the", and there's not even any plural pronouns to speak of, unless you count "Youze" when used with "Guys". How boring! Not to mention German has all those compound words, which I adore.

I also like the way the language sounds. Give me German and Russian Hebrew and Gaelic, thanks. All those vowelcentric Latin-based languages don't do a thing for me. Except Latin itself, that is, and also French, which isn't so much about ending everything in a vowel.

BWAH!

Funny, funny boy.

So very impressed with the straight face keeping. And the German (I allegedly 'learnt' the language once - enough to pass an exam very well. Alas I did not understand then that 'learn' means remember for more than 6 hours after the exam is over).

Three months in Germany will teach you German pretty fast. He had German lessons from first grade, but you don't ever really speak it fluently until you're immersed in it, I would guess.

Scary, but true.

Maybe if I pimp it he'll be famous. As long as he doesn't get involved with Hollywood, I'm fine with it. He needs to be on stage, dammit! Although I'm apparently going through a phase where I think everyone should be in theatre (including me, but um, no).
