I'm ecstatic (and very unsurprised) that Slings & Arrows is getting yet another rave review.

But, um.

The main player in ``Slings'' is actor-turned-director Geoffrey Tennant (Paul Gross, a Canadian Tom Hanks best known in this country for the TV cult claassic ``Due South''), who became interim artistic director of the festival....

I really like Tom Hanks (Philadelphia is one of my very, very favourite movies in the world). Very talented guy, and from everything I've heard, a very nice guy. But he and Paul Gross are nothing alike (aside from being talented and, hopefully, nice). Their acting styles are completely different, they don't look anything alike, they don't sound anything alike. WTF? It's also a bad way to promote the series, because not everyone likes Tom Hanks. Not to mention that Tom Hanks as Geoffrey makes me wince a little, no matter how much I like him as an actor. To be fair, Paul Gross as Forrest Gump makes me wince a lot.

Original article is here, but I'm not sure if it's accessible without signing up.

You haven't seen Twitch City yet? ohmygodIamSOexcitedforyou! Did you know that it is written and stars Don Mckellar? It has Callum in a few eps but Don is the MASTERMIND genius behind it all. I can't wait to hear what you think of it. It should be availabe here from Amazon anyday now.
I bet he cares a little bit. He IS after all an actor - they just can't help it! Some people I know saw him here at a premeier for Men with Brooms and he was happy and suprised that they knew who he was. Everyone else showed up for Leslie Neilson.
I think S&A touches on some of these themes too, in a very thoughtful and provoking way. Without having to utilize my handy soapbox! Look at the "Hollywood" star in season one. He really seemed to learn alot from his experience.
I wish they were doing more seasons of that show.

Well, okay, you're right about that. Big egos are in the job description, after all. *g* I don't think he'd want to have NO fans here, but I bet he's not breaking out the Sominex about it. Also, *breaks out in fangirl mode for Leslie Nielsen*

Hmm, yeah. I love Jack, actually. I don't like the Jack/Kate storyline so much, but I really like Jack's interaction with Geoffrey. Add the fact that Paul's actually *done* Hamlet, and it's even better. The casting department couldn't have done a better job. Jack could be Geoffrey's own son, they have the same colouring and even look a little alike. And okay, I'm throwing THAT particular plot bunny as far as I can.

The first time I read this I thought "I thought Jack WAS Paul's son! They look completely alike!" and then got terribly confused until I realised which Jack you were talking about. I need sleep.

"Oh you have a son. Not mine I hope."

Isn't Paul's son Zach? Or Zack? Either way, it rhymes.

And thanks a lot for the prompt. I needed that. Erm.

Nope, you're right. I just checked. I fail at Paul's kids. Well, except Hannah, because I have a Hannah myself. *g*

Well, not all things. I refuse, outright, to ever see 20,00 Leagues Under the Sea. And I can't even make myself open the files that I actually have of some of his music video stuff.

But, yeah, Paul's kind of easy to fangirl. Especially for stuff like this.

I told this story on sam's LJ, but my parents recorded 20,000 Leagues a few weeks ago, for non-Paul reasons. I received a phone call from my 75-year-old father who exclaimed "I just saw Paul Goss in a film, he looked absolutely gorgeous!".

I did watch 20,000 Leagues and it was pretty darned terrible. Thankfully Paul only had a rather minor supporting role so was mostly saved from the shame. The thing I found completely freaky though was that the woman playing the love interest looked an awful lot like a very young Martha - same wide eyes and delicate features. Absolutely appalling actress though.

It didn't let me read the story but I saw it before. *loves on him some more*
His music video stuff isn't the worst thing I've ever seen - it's just embarrassing if you really really like him because - well - let's just say he's a better actor than 'dancer'. And for some godamned reason - he is playing a TINY guitar in Voodoo and it just looks really quite strange since he's such a big guy. I like some of his musical stuff only because it sounds so much like HIS voice. But then again - I've yet to hear "Santa needs a new pickup" or whatever that awful song was!
Have you watched H2O yet? I haven't because his hair in that scares me but I might have to just get over it. I have it at home waiting for a 'rainy' day. *stares out at the semi-arid desert/plains I call home* I might have to wait for a different kind of day!
I just dl'd the audio of his wwwI show. Now if I can figure out how to unzip it - I will be in business. *goes back to luddite existance*

Apparently there's scarier stuff than the "Voodoo" vid out there (although I didn't even listen to the song itself because I was told the video was horrible, which it really wasn't. When I finally did and liked it, I could have strangled fandom). Something about Elvis and the Rockettes. I'm too scared to even look.

I love H20, as much for the political stuff as for anything else (Yes, I'm a politics geek. I read whole books on Canadian politics). And there's like two pictures I've seen that have Bad Hair. Certainly not this one:

Really, it's worth watching. It's one of Paul's best roles, I think, because he doesn't play a Nice Guy. Or a Bad Guy, either. It's a gorgeous performance, and the whole thing is beautifully written. And there's a sequel coming, yay!

ooh awesomeness then! I will maybe watch that soon. I will definitely be getting the sequel when it comes out too. I am so happy with S&A, Wilby, Men with Brooms and Due South - I can keep rewatching all of them and never get tired of it either.
I wish there were better, longer print interviews with him too - I like to know what he is thinking about various situations. The whole ACTRA deal was fascinating because he really came down on a the unions which was not what I thought he would do.

I haven't seen either of those yet and as of yet - I don't know anyone who has them. theamusedone is my source of all things pg and CKR - I will have to see if he has them.
I think I dreamt about him last night but it was probably more of a politial intrigue dream than a hot sexy dream.

I kindasorta have both of them.

I had a dream that I went on a date with John Edwards once. It was very nice, and we went to dinner. That was the extent of it, because for some reason I never have hot sexy dreams. I would have settled for a political intrigue dream, because John Edwards is actually a politician, but no, we had to have soup, salad and entree instead. *g*

Well - then hightale it out to Colorado ASAP! We will have a viewing party! Or at least put my little state on your list of places to visit. We have awesome music festivals - I know you like those. And we have mountains! And a few fangirls too. And some more mountains. If you like mountains.
I wish I could go with you on your trip to Canada this summer. (see how I just randomly invite myself along *G*)
There are a couple of music festivals up there that I am keeping my eye on for future dates. Especially the Cape Breton one you are going to. It looks fabulous.
Soup, salad and an entree with John Edwards is almost sexy? I hope the dream conversation was good at least? Any time PG is in my dreams I am just happy!

I could send you the computer files, if you want them. I'm already uploading Cold Comfort in case you did.

I've been at the Denver airport, but I guess that doesn't count. :) I'm supposed to be going to Cape Breton in the fall, but I may have to pull it back a bit since my DIL is expecting a baby on Oct. 15. It seems every time I want to go to Canada I can't; it's been eight years, way too long.

I don't remember the dream conversation, alas. He looked happy, though, so he probably wasn't bored. I dreamed I kissed Alex Krycek once, which is about as sexy of a dream as I get. Not fair, I say.

I would love to get Cold Comfort and Murder most likely. I just can't burn it but I know someone who can. Thanks for putting those up for me. I was so sad when that place we all love (s-closet) got busted. I just liked knowing those things were there.
Oh - I've had lots of supersexy dreams but that comes from reading so much fanfic! hee! I daydream during boring classes and it's always x-rated RayK/Benton stuff. It keeps me sane!
That is not good that you have to miss the festival this year but a new grandchild is well worth the wait. Congrats on that - it's always something to get excited about.
