I try to forget that the average snowfall every year is an outrageous amount. When I'm really feeling the house envy, I remember it. :)

Now, see, a bunch of us should buy it and make liek, a fannish commune. We could call it Fangirls Down North, or something.

Not just Canadian dreamhouses, mind you. This is a Cape Breton dreamhouse. *loves*

In your dream, insist it comes "as is" so you get the furniture too.

For that price, I could deal with buying new furniture. But since it's my dream, why not go for everything? I'll keep the guitar, too. :)

This is just a tiny sample of the houses available in the area. The economy is basically nonexistent. Still, this is the heart of tourist country, so you'd think they'd be able to sell for more.

Dude, Cape Breton is AMAZING. And all the houses are that cheap! Seriously - I went out there last fall and my dad and I would hang around the local real estate places, boggling at the prices. 10 acres with a creek? $40K? Why yes indeedy - I don't actually need a house or a road at that price!

I've been surfing Cape Breton real estate sites for years. I've been thinking a lot about just going for it and getting a summer place (not discussing the fact that I'm currently broke and don't even own a winter place).

What's even more incredible is that the house I linked to? Is in Baddeck, in the heart of Touristland, NS, and it's still that cheap. The houses in Sydney and places that aren't so rural and/or picturesque (me, I think it's all beautiful, but that's me) are even cheaper, liek, dirt cheap. It's the terrible economy, unfortunately. *shakes fist at Jim Flaherty, et. al*

These pictures are gorgeous. I've never been to PEI, but it's definitely on the list. Cape Breton, OTOH. I've been there only twice, and both times in the winter, but y'know how one of their slogans is "Home of my heart"? Um, they wrote that for me. :) I'm hoping to get up down there in September. Dunno what I'll do when I get there, but I'll figure something out.

Yeah, we stopped in Baddeck - not the best place to settle. I really liked the west side of the island - much more rural, untouched, etc. Plus really closer to Cape Breton National Park.

I'd recommend going really late Sept/early Oct. - we started 10/12-10/22 or so, and most of the tourist stuff closed up on 10/15. But if you go in the later half of Sept., you're in "off-season". That pic of the white houses on the beach - we just drove into town, stopped in, and got the last two bedroom, full kitchen, etc. cabin for $99/night. Regular season was more like $150.

Both times I've been there the focus was mostly on Sydney and surrounding areas. We did get out to the Bell museum and the Miners' Museum (they were both closed and they opened up for us, because Capers are really friendly like that). The west coast is someplace I've been looking at (online) more and more. Margaree looks like a place I could get used to very, very easily.

I'm actually thinking of staying here. It looks comfy and cheap. It sure beats the Jacques Cartier Motel for not-boringness. And thin walls. Seriously, we heard way too much from the couple having sex in the next room. I spent half the night hoping the kids wouldn't wake up and force me to explain stuff.

That's a great area - actually in the park!

You might check out the Ceilidh Trail and Inverness - we drove up the east side of the main island from Halifax and then up the west side of Cape Breton and caught one of the last days of the Celtic Colours festival just outside of Inverness, and it was great. World-class music, and while there were tourists, they were informed tourists, so it wasn't obnoxious.

My original plan was to go to Celtic Colours. They changed pretty quickly when I found out that lovely DIL [livejournal.com profile] tapped_trish is due to have her baby just a few days after the end of the festival. I've been trying to get to CC for ten years, now, but somehow being around for the baby's a tad more important. *g* I'll go next year, though.

Dude. You don't need to sell me on Cape Breton, or the music. I'll actually be starting to learn the fiddle come September. I'm halfway thinking about doing the three-week fiddle program here next year. An adventure is in order, so yeah. :)

Is there a place where I can sign up? I'm all about the pimpage.
