Also, I need suggestions as to what colour to paint his room (note ugly walls in background). He's not giving me any suggestions except "blue". Anything's better than that mud-brown it is now.

Vis-a-vis paint, I'm definitely thinking something on the darker end of the blue spectrum. Something just past a sort of standard "denim" blue, maybe, with a bit of indigo in there?

The room I'm in right now is small, and it has one ink-blue wall and three beige walls? My husband works for a painting company, he picks out all our colours. It seems OK though.

I like the idea of one blue wall and three beige ones. It would work better with a small room. Also, given the dark brown I have to paint over, I need to pick colours that will hide it without a thousand layers.
