Meme from
patchfire, which I'm finally answering:
Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.
My answers (complete with video link, picspam, and too many words):
1. ¡No Pasarán!
Caveat: Spoilers for final episode of Slings & Arrows:
2. Ves'-ka gan:
The Song of the Turtle. Loosely defined, it's the voice of creativity that inspires an artist. It's more complex than that, but you really need to read the story for the rest.
3. The Brown Uniform:

4. Pria-toi gan delah:
Also from the Dark Tower books. It means "White over Red, thus Gan wills ever". It's about good vs. evil and the will of God, and also not about that. Like I said, you have to read the story. It's impossible not to be vague unless I write seventy-two paragraphs or so.
5. Council of Canadians:
Over at
h20_wtf we were talking about the concept of the borderless state, and
fspider, ever intelligent and well-learned about such things, recommended Maude Barlow's Too Close for Comfort. I was impressed (and more than a little disturbed) by what she brought up her book so I looked her up online and found her Council of Canadians, who deal with a lot of scary issues like trade, health care, water, most of all of which are tied into deep integration, which is a slippery slope of more and more harmonization of regulations and policies that could wear down the borders between the US and Canada and also the US and Mexico until all of north America is virtually one country. It's about money and power to the corporations and CEOs of business, and it makes the average citizens of each country suffer for it.
I was again impressed with the research and disturbed by the idea, so I went looking for a US-based group who was also concerned. Every single group who has organized in the US is right-wing and pro-militarisation of the border with Mexico. My conscience wouldn't let me support a group that was doing the right thing for what I feel are the wrong reasons, so instead I joined the C of C.
When I was in Ottawa last summer I went to a meeting/film sponsored by the C of C (Called "New World Border", about the militarisation of the Mexican border). They're not just talk; they're trying to do something about the problem. If anyone knows of a progressive US group that's doing the same thing, please let me know.
6. Despising the Yankees:
I have to despise the Yankees; it's one of the highest if not the highest law of my nation.
7. Martha Burns as architecture:
patchfire already knows about this because she was part of the conversation that started it. I wish I had the original log because I don't remember the exact context, but it started with a random discussion of how Martha Burns and the CN Tower were never seen together, and maybe that was because the Tower is Martha's seekrit identity. The subject kept coming up in reference to other buildings as well (including, if I'm not mistaken, things like the Washington Monument). I think we reached the point of complete crack sometime around my first Ottawa trip, for obvious reasons. I am a dork. When I'm paired with my
patchfire, the dorkery can reach critical mass in a very short span of time. There's probably a math equation for it which I would post if I knew the first thing about math.

Although, I do think the official reason is that he thought the red uniform to be more symbolic and more easily identifable.

Date: 2007-11-20 04:50 pm (UTC)Almost all my interests in English are the same in Russian too, but I have some more interests in Russian that are not included in "the English list".
I DID NOT! I somehow missed the link!!! Where were my eyes?! :-)
I'm downloading it now! Thank you very very kindly! :-*

Date: 2007-11-20 05:17 pm (UTC)I'm choosing from the Russian list because I don't have a clue as to what more than a couple of them say, so it'll be more random:
Франция, лазить по деревьям, Строго на юг, афоризмы, диснеевские мультфильмы, Оярс Вациетис, Бентон Фрейзер (I think I know what this one is but if it gets me picspam it's all good *g*).
If you answer in Russian I'll still have no clue, so maybe answer in both languages?
*sigh* I really want to learn Russian. It's been on my list of languages to learn since I was a teenager. Maybe after I'm done with French?

I thought you might have missed it. Weird thing about this movie: Sasha's brown contacts. Why on earth would anyone do such a thing? It's a sweet film. I like it for a lot of reasons. :)

I'm absolutely sure we both have at least two the same interests. And you have chosen them. ;-)

I have exactly the same situation with...French. Even Steven. :-)
I like it for a lot of reasons. :)
I can imagine! *g*
