I ain't got a penny for cotton Jenny to spend but then the wheels go 'round

...because I'm surfing YouTube and also because this song reminds me of my [livejournal.com profile] patchfire, who I adore utterly and don't talk to nearly enough these days:

(and really, this vid should be viewed fullscreen, so go here to do it).

Wow, I haven't heard that in ages and ages... but I could still sing along with nearly all of it.

Lovely vid. Thanks so much for sharing it!

I've loved Gordon Lightfoot since I was something like twelve. There's basically nothing he's done that I don't love.

Yep, me too. His songs were some of the earliest I learned to play on the guitar. My brother, bless him, got me a GL concert DVD for Christmas. *heart*

For better or worse, whenever I hear that voice, I cannot help but think it should be singing about nothing but the gales of November.

Okay, then, here you go, complete with pictures!:

And its sister song, because I can't hear one without the other:

I honestly can't think of a Lightfoot song I don't love, but yeah, his historical pieces are awesome.

Thank you! I never saw the picture of the Fitzgerald in the Locks. How very cool. And such beautiful shots of Michigan's shorelines and the Lakes. It's not often these days that I swell with Michigan pride, but when I leave behind the brain-dead politics of the state and all its economic woes and focus on her natural beauty and the lifestyle unique to those who live surrounded by the forests, farms, and especially the Lakes, I can't help but be thankful I grew up in such a place.

Yep, I feel the same way about New England (and sometimes I'm even okay with the politics. Sometimes).
