My flist is the best one in LJ-land, no question. *hugs you all*

And [livejournal.com profile] bookshop? Is made of more awesome than the awesomest thing ever made. Thank you, darling, thank you so much. *loves*

I'm waiting for an estimate on the car, but it looks like it's going to be 3 grand or better to fix. However, getting another car of the same quality is going to cost more than that, plus I'd have to go through one of those iffy car places because of my credit.

I really, really want to fix this one. It's the best car I've ever owned, new or used, and I don't want to settle for something with less quality. If I'd been driving my old Dodge Neon instead of the Jetta, I could have been killed. I really don't want to take that chance.

Why can't car fixing places do payment plans like other places do? I don't have a credit card to put it on. They will most likely think I'm from outer space because of this. And they won't care anyway. :/

I don't know - one would think it would make sense. Maybe you can negotiate a payment plan?

::pets::

We really have to hook up in Toronto in August. Promise we will make arrangements to meet?

$3K? OWCH. That's completely brutal. Do you know your mechanic personally? Maybe s/he'll be amenable to some kind of payment plan. When I lived in the small town where I grew up, our mechanic would do that. (I mean, he knew where we lived... across the street from him.) It's worth an ask, anyway. :-/ I hope it'll be better than you think it will!

That is expensive.

And you would have thought they should have some sort of payment plan.

My DIL takes her car to a place that does plans. I might have to have my car towed there, but it'd be worth it.

And yes, Toronto definitely. I hope to be there for a few days, so it's very likely!

I hope they will do one, and if not I'll have it towed to somewhere that does. Hopefully.

I don't know the mechanic from Adam/Eve. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I just read my flist for the first time in a while, so I only now saw your previous post. Yikes. But I'm glad you're ok -- aching back notwithstanding, it could have been a *lot* worse, and it wasn't.

*hugs*

I really think having the car I did saved me from getting hurt or worse. I'm still hoping I can get it fixed, because I don't want to have to settle for a car that crumples easily.

*hugs also*

My only help with car related stuff is to A.) shop around (I'm sure you're already doing that!), and try cartalk.com's Mechanic's Files. You can search by zip code and read reviews from other listeners about quality, how they'll work with you, whether they treat men and women the same, etc. I've found it very helpful.

I hadn't even thought about checking with Car Talk. And I'm a huge fan! *slaps self*
