Wait. Most people see the dancer in this image going anti-clockwise? And they can make her change direction?
Obviously, I'm way right-brained. But then I knew that. But seriously, woah. It's no wonder I have no sense of direction whatsoever.
Also,
meresy and
nos4a2no9, we must talk dinner and things!
mr_t00by and I will be in Toronto on 7/27 or thereabouts.

Until just now. I stared at her head for a bit, and then relaxed the focus of my eyes, and I saw her change.

Some of the comments at the bottom of the page say she always turns clockwise, but I don't think so, since not ALL of them do.

Yay! \o/ My lab group is having a bbq on the 26th, though, so is it the 27th or thereabouts?

When I opened the link, I saw a dancer going clockwise.
Then I tried to imagine her dancing anti-clockwise, but nothing changed. Then I started to read the text on the left and when I looked at the dancer again, she was dancing anti-clockwise! :-OOO

I can make it change direction, but it takes me awhile...
PS: the right brain/ left brain stuff is really theoretically debatable at this point. Most perception folks (like my husband) will agree it's bunk.

ETA:
1 - I cannot make her go counter-clockwise.
2 - The programmer has an attention for details. He digitally rendered her nipples with accuracy.

2. Rendering is v. v. important in this kind of experiment.

Today I tried to see if I could make her change direction the way one of your earlier commenters suggested. By letting the picture go out of focus - a bit like you do to see 3D pictures - she changes every time I do it. Curious.

In other news, a week and a day to go 'til Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet! And if that wasn't enough, I'm seeing The Dark Knight tomorrow! AND my book is entering into its darkest parts! Squee! I'm awash in a sea of darkness and angst!

Ah Toronto. I still haven't made it there yet. It's on my list, though. :-)
