The thing that worries me is that, even if they're a fringe, in a country of 300 million people that fringe could be a million or two... a million is a lot of people in absolute terms and they can be scary.
No, I don't suppose that was really any help. Sorry.
Why is it that everyone compares people to Hitler? Obama is not like Hitler. It's sad seeing these people rebel so much from a Socialized Health Care. We function fine up here in Canada with it. I mean, yes there are lines, but emergencies always get in first at the hospitals.
There's a whole lot wrong with the comparison (other than the "Obama is not evil" obviousness). One, Obama is black, which means that Hitler would have probably had him incinerated. Two, if he's such a socialist (which, um, he isn't), how can he also be a fascist? And three, nobody is proposing socialized medicine. The proposal is for a public option so that people who don't have or don't want private insurance can choose it. It's an opt-in thing.
And it's nothing like Canada's system--and even if it were, Canada has single-payer, yes, but even your system doesn't fit the definition of "Socialized Medicine", which basically would mean the docs would all work for the government and the hospitals would be run by the government, which I'm pretty sure isn't the case with Canada (at least that's what I'm hearing from the CBC). I wish we had single-payer, but if the Public Option is having this much trouble getting passed, single-payer is gonna take even more time.
Grr. Argh. Americans know how to talk a lot about stuff they know almost nothing about. Which? Is probably true for everyone in the world, but still. I think we win first prize, at least in this case.
Haha I've always secretly admired how Americans truly fight for what they believe in and don't sit around complaining, like a lot of Canadians sadly do. But yeah, you're definitely right, they need to get their facts straight.

We're a country born from revolution, after all. I think it's in the DNA. Which is fine, if we get the facts straight first. Otherwise, it doesn't mean much.
And anyway, Canada has wonderful groups leik the Council of Canadians that fight for stuff all the time--and sometimes even win! :)
On the flip side, when some of us right thinking people were horrified at the liberties and basic human rights being violated RIGHT HERE AT HOME while Bush was in office...we were TOTAL nutjobs. Amiright?

It's helping my resolve to maybe save money faster (translation: at all), just in case Getting Out of Dodge becomes a necessity and not a pipe dream?
