In which the POTUS addresses House Republicans...

...immediately followed by Question Period a Q&A session addressing a variety of issues:

People are calling this event historic and meaning it. Hats off to the President for doing this, and to the House Republicans for inviting him. *waves flag*

(I deliberately used the smaller-sized embeds, but if they're messing with anyone's flist I'll put them under a cut)

Historic? Not quite. George W. was the first president to attend a private policy retreat of the opposing party. By all accounts he spoke candidly and was received well. His one stipulation for attending was that it not be videotaped. Why? To remove the possibility of using the tape for political gain by anyone, himself included. My own opinion here, but due to the lack of lenses, the give and take was likely more open and honest than if the cameras had been rolling.

This is the first time it WAS taped, and that's what everyone's saying is so historic. I think the country needs to see bipartisanship, so I'm glad it was. He was definitely well-received. I really think that this is the first positive step, for both sides of the aisle, in a long, long time. It makes everyone look like hey, we actually care about stuff.
