Alberta Culture Minister defends criticism of home-grown television.

"Others were more blunt. Actor and director Paul Gross replied in an e-mail after being told about the comments by The Globe: 'It’s sad for the thousands of talented people working in Alberta to have their efforts reduced to a four-letter expletive and sad for all Albertans that this is what passes for responsible government.'"

Dear Minister Blackett,

What John Stewart said.

Mr. Gross has had his four-letter word moments. I would not have blamed him for deciding that Minister Blackett's utterance constituted fair grounds for such a moment in public. Not for a second.

My reaction was basically, gee, Paul, why don't you tell us what you really think? ;)

In this case I think his reaction is about the attitude, and especially the venue, of the minister. And from my (admittedly very limited) knowledge of the situation, I agree with him.

Hmmm. I think I might be on the fence with this one.
I respect Canadian media but, I mean, this article and what some of them say has some truth. I just don't like how they bunched ALL of Canadian media under one umbrella.

That was my problem. Sure, there's crap in Canadian media, there's crap in all media. But there's a lot of good stuff, too (Little Mosque, Less than Kind, Slings & Arrows, yadda). To call it shit, in front of a festival crowd? Bad form.
