I had just about finished formatting and entering my story for [livejournal.com profile] ds_ssdiscussion, complete with a lot of minor story edits and important stuff like that, and Firefox decided that this would be a jolly old time to crash on me. sflhsd;f asf;s. Will re-edit and post in the morning because right now I'm too pissed off and would probably miss stuff.

Grr, argh. I'm going to the wine store.

Alberta Culture Minister defends criticism of home-grown television.

"Others were more blunt. Actor and director Paul Gross replied in an e-mail after being told about the comments by The Globe: 'It’s sad for the thousands of talented people working in Alberta to have their efforts reduced to a four-letter expletive and sad for all Albertans that this is what passes for responsible government.'"

Dear Minister Blackett,

What John Stewart said.

Well. Big Brother has finally caught up with LJ at work and is only allowing me access in 6 ten-minute "quota" installments. Of course, I can go computer to computer if I want, and we've got, hmm. *counts* Seven desktops and two notebooks, along with being able to use a generic log-in page that may or may not add things up collectively among them. But I figure that I can read dreamwidth instead at work and save LJ for stuff at home.

It's getting worse for computer stuff at work (which I only use while on break and during slow times when there is literally nothing else to do). First my streaming radio was gone (I did use that during work, but it's not like it was distracting--in fact, it helped me focus). Then the podcasts went away, then Facebook. I didn't really care about Facebook because I figured hey, I had LJ and they couldn't possibly find such a relatively obscure blog. Only now they've found it and stuck this new quota thing on it. I figure it's only a matter of time before they find DW. But, until that happens, I'll read/post here, as much of it is crossposted anyway. Grr. Big Brother.

In other news, I've made my reservations for Ottawa! So far I'll be there from 29 June to 6 July. Dudes. Canada day IN CANADA. And the Queen will be there! *throws red-and-white confetti*

“I hope that [Attorney General Eric] Holder did discuss this with the intelligence community. If they believe they got enough from him, how much more should they get? Did they Mirandize him? I know he’s an American citizen but still.” — Rep. Peter King (R-NY), in a Politico interview

You read that right. He actually said 'but still'. Um. But still what?

And besides, Miranda has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with citizenship. It has to do with being in America. Land of the free, home of the brave, remember? Everyone gets Mirandized--white collar criminals and Mafia hit men and serial killers and kids caught with half a joint on them and axe murderers and child rapists and Bernie Madoff--because this is America. What part of "due process" does Rep. King not understand? If a suspect isn't Mirandized, it's entirely possible that s/he will be able to cry foul and walk away.

And the answer is yes, they did Mirandize Faisal Shahzad, after first questioning him under the public safety clause that allows for delaying Miranda. And he talked, before and after.

Source is here.

Northeast Hit With Devastating Floods, As Federal Flood Insurance Expires Due To GOP Obstruction )

Dear GOP,

Thanks for all your assistance. Don't let your matches get wet.

Sarcastically,

Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

P.S. You'll probably get letters from Massachusetts and Connecticut, too.

Still frustrated about watching Olympics online. NBC has 'highlights', but to see the whole thing live you have to have TV access to begin with, because they're exclusive like that. BBC is only available in the UK, and CTV keeps saying 'video error', which I'm pretty sure means 'unless you're in Canada, you're SOL.' afsd;kjfasdafsdhlasdf. If anyone has any ideas, lay 'em on me.

I did manage to see the tail end of the ceremony last night, and watched k.d. lang's performance on video this morning. I also watched video of Team Canada and Team USA entering the stadium, but other than that there was ABSOLUTELY NO JOY.

This does not bode well for the rest of the games. I think I'm going to be doing a lot of watching over at Mary's.

Oh, and according to [livejournal.com profile] bjohan57, a lot of the Twitter coming out of Canada last night about the opening ceremonies was basically 'wtf, where's Paul Gross?', because apparently even though both the GG and the PM were in attendance, Canada isn't properly represented without Paul. Awwww. \o/ Also, yeah, where was he? Did anyone even think about asking him?

In other news, working a night shift tonight. This morning, going somewhere with Mary and Juliana and Amelia and *gasp!* maybe even Caleb OMG.

Today I...

almost bought a new laptop.

almost drove to Ottawa.

I blame ADD for why neither came to pass.

I blame my own psyche for why I honestly expected them to.
