America needs a second party

I probably disagree with about ninety percent of Alex Jones' politics, but I like him, at least in this video. I mostly don't agree with libertarians, but I usually understand them and why they say the things they do. Besides, except for the global warming thing and the eugenics thing, this guy has a point about the real tyranny being the power behind the throne.

It's not Glenn Beck or the Republicans or the President--the "mid-level nobodys--and a dead President like Woodrow Wilson"--who are at fault. I really hope he's wrong, but I'm thinking that maybe the actual owners of the fault are waaay beyond politics, sitting somewhere safe and pulling all our strings and laughing at us.

peacey, you should watch this, because I think you'll like this guy, also.


(I had originally deleted this post because I thought I was being too melodramatic. After watching the video again, I'm not so sure).

ETA: Apparently Alex Jones is a 9-11 Truther. Which doesn't quite invalidate the point about corporate control of government, but it doesn't exactly make him a credible authority, either.

Well, I totally disagree with this guy about the eugenics conspiracy theory stuff, and global warming, and about a hundred other things; but his general idea is right--that the power behind the throne is what's governing this country, and it probably doesn't matter who's sitting in the Oval office, because they can't blow their nose without multinational corporations and Big Oil and Big Pharma and people like that giving permission. What I really like about Mr. Jones is that he's as critical of Republicans as he is of Dems, and that he's reading Glenn Beck the riot act for being so one-sided.

One person I respect the heck out of? Ron Paul, even though yeah, so not the same political stripe as me. We agree on a lot of issues, actually--NAFTA and North American harmonization in particular--but for completely different reasons. But he thinks about stuff. And I mean, really, should we just sit back and listen to our own political echo chamber? If we do, we're just listening to ourselves talk, really. It's important to get info from all sides, because there will always be someone who has a point, like Ron Paul. And Rachel Maddow. And apparently Alex Jones.

I guess I figured he was a couple of steps this side of wacko, it's a shame to know he's over the edge. :/ Still, my point stands. The people we vote in are kinda puppets, I think, no matter which side of the aisle they hail from.I hope and I wish this weren't true.

*applauds* That's a right powerful kick you got for such a little lady.

Though I have my differences with Ron Paul too (mostly in the area of national defense), I really, really like many of his positions. He's a smart, courageous man, and I'd probably vote for him for Prez over...well, almost anyone I can think of.

Also? *whispers* I don't hate Glenn Beck. As with all talking heads, politicians, commentators, and agenda-driven people, I take what he says with a grain of salt, but personally I like the guy's passion and earnestness. Though he's gets kooky, is knee-jerk, and tends to takes positions that are more extreme than my own, I think he's got the basics basically right.

Who I've really come to loathe is Palin. Where I truly believe Beck is earnest and speaks his true heart, I believe Palin (like Obama) is nothing like what she makes herself out to be. She (like Obama) manipulates her image to gain the most power, and I want no part of either of them.

Ok, let the fur fly. :)

I don't hate Glenn Beck, either. I honestly don't hate anyone (and the one I come close to hating is someone I actually know, and she deserves it). He's said himself he's an entertainer, so mneh. In any case, I think he's a giant conspiracy theorist and I don't think much of (most) conspiracy theories. And if he's stealing ideas from a Truther, double mneh.

I first heard of Sarah Palin quite awhile before McCain picked her as his running mate, in an interview with Alaska Public Radio (on the awesome show AK, which because of funding issues is not longer airing, woe). She comes across as pretty normal, so I think she feeds on the adulation and forms herself to her public, which yeah. SO not cool.

I don't think Obama manipulates in the same way as Palin. I think he wants people to like him, so he tries way too hard to be likeable. Also, I don't think he expected the opposition he got, which, yes, is because he hasn't been in bigtime politics as long as most.

You know who I really like? Pete Dominick. I started listening to him last year on POTUS, a nonpartisan political channel on Sirius Radio. He generally leans left, but he's not knee-jerky about it and he's always emphatically saying, "don't take my word for it, don't take my guests' word for it, look it up, think for yourself." He thinks to be engaged is more important than being right all the time. And when someone calls him on something that's not true, he admits his mistake. I highly rec his show (and POTUS). HE's also got a segment on the John King show on CNN, but I've only seen it once.
