oh yah! i heard some of it on NPR. *<3's NPR* lieberman can cry all he wants - i'll just hand him a tissue and hug gore/dear. <--ooh, i just slashed them. :) it's amazing how gore switched his allegiances. very interesting...
He's turned a lot of his ideas around of late, even before endorsing Dean. People are all saying, "oh, but he didn't have these views during his campaign." They forget, I think, that the campaign was pre-Sept.11. The way he's been speaking out on the Patriot Act, etc., is encouraging. I really think he got scared out of complacency, quite a bit.
I've always liked him personally, anyway. I think he's a politician down to his donkey-print boxers, but I think he cares. I really do.
i was just talking with my hubby about the gore endorsement. i, like you, actually like gore. i really do. i liked clinton more, but i do like gore. and i like him more now than i did 3 years ago. my husband isn't as big a fan anymore since the 2000 race. he thinks gore showed poor leadership not to have fought harder for the presidential seat. i agree with some of what he has to say, but i still can't help but like gore. i too think he cares. as long as he doesn't make out with his wife on public television ever again. YUCK! i'm glad that gore went the dean-route v. lieberman. personally, joe can kiss my ass. *sigh* i need to start making political icons - the slashy ones aren't as poignant. or their poignancy is misdirected. :)
I second the artie/paul "*sigh*"! I'll be going to the concert tomorrow (Thursday) evening. Spent the big bucks on decent tickets, but not the *huge* bucks on the best ones. I've seen Paul several times. I figured this might be the only time I'd ever see the two together. I do have everything Paul recorded, and everything they recorded together. Plus a couple of Artie solo, and many boots of live shows. Big fan, yes indeed, I am.
The concert was great. I'll be writing more on it in the next day or so. My 2 favorite things: 1)The magical, and quite unexpected segue Zoo -> Baby Driver. I heard a Baby Driver motif quoted about 10 seconds before they flew into it, and still didn't expect it. 2)Leaves That Are Green...as an encore! Pristine!
Paul did look exhausted or ill when the show started. He didn't sound as strong then, either, but later seemed to recover fully. He and Artie barely looked at each other. *sad* Although a part time professional reconnection involving new Simon & Garfunkel material would be great, what I really hoped would be the outcome of this tour is the repair or renewal of their friendship.
i'll write more about my concert experience and inside scoop tomorrow when i have time. but, thought i would let you know - paul and artie are NOT speaking to each other. at all. there was talk about a world tour, but paul has nixed the idea completely. we'll see... people are still pushing, but i think this is the last time we'll see simon and garfunkel together.
the everly brothers aren't talking to each other either. and one was completely shit-faced. HA!
paul did look completely exhausted or sick, i couldn't tell which. the sound engineer, my dad's friend, and the lighting designer whom we hung out with looked the same way, so i'm guessing it's exhaustion and long tour hours. everyone looked like they needed a good, long hibernation.
our concert was spectacular, though. paul and artie sounded fabulous and, drunk or not, the everly brothers sounded pretty damn good. i'm glad you had such a nice time, too. it was amazing to see the Fleet Center that packed. what an amazing duo - it's really unfortunate they aren't able to keep the partnership alive. :)
Your new Gore icon is great...shortly after Bush slimed his way into the Oval Office, I saw Gore in Harvard Square, with his beard and his son. It was parents' weekend, or something like that at Harvard, and Al was staying at the Charles Hotel, where our Farmers' Market is set up on Sundays. They walked right through the market, but not close enough to my stand for me to speak to him if I wanted. Which I wouldn't have, anyway. He was in Cambridge being a Dad, and I would have respected his privacy (while thinking that I was indeed in the company of the rightful POTUS)
I think, for one thing, he's picked the candidate he thinks can beat Bush. Dean is the frontrunner, after all.
I like Gore. He's a politician, sure, but aren't they all? I think he's got a good heart, at the end of the day. His strong stand on environmental issues has always impressed me.

Date: 2003-12-09 03:30 pm (UTC)Revealed...
Date: 2003-12-12 03:25 am (UTC)10. Thought Dean would give the most dynamic concession speech
9. Howard Dean reminds him of Jimmy Dean, who makes them breakfast sausages
8. Only way to counteract freight-train success of Kucinich campaign
7. His support could get Dean popular vote, for what that's worth
6. Judgement clouded by Melana not selecting Adam on "Average Joe"
5. Dean promised to totally be his best friend forever
4. Wants Howard Dean to do for America what he did for Vermont...whatever the hell that was
3. Maybe it was the eleven vodka gimlets
2. The dart hit Dean's name
1. As a doctor, Dean has a legitimate excuse for fondling interns
