Martha, Emril, and the rest of them would do well if they could be half the person this lady was.

Date: 2004-08-13 06:08 pm (UTC)I've been a fan since her first show on PBS. I was, I think, a teenager when I watched her semi-botch something she was cooking, and she raised a glass to it. I think it taught me, in part, to relax with my own cooking. I think Julia had a big influence on my willingness to experiment with food.
I have a friend who also had a show on PBS. I seldom talk "shop" with him, as I'm sure he gets enough of that. But I let him know that, if he could ever facilitate it, that I would love to meet Julia. She was too frail (arthritis, apparantly) to ever allow it.
Although Prairie Home Companion is on hiatus (reruns) for the summer, I'm sure Garrison will honor her wonderfully in his own way come next season. She has been one of his "celebrity guests" for many years. He did a wonderful tribute to Fred Rogers, and I'm sure he'll have one to Julia, too.
A bientot, Julia, et oui, bon appetit.
