Last night my friend Linda and I saw the movie Closer.

Suffice it to say that it's a fairly accurate portrayal of how people can f**k each other over. But. It's Depressing (capital D) to the nth degree. Nobody starts out happy, nobody's happy in the middle, nobody finishes happy. I'm not someone who has to have a happy ending, but it'd be nice if someone, anyone, were happy at some moment in the film. Not the case here in the slightest. :/.

However, geh. The song that bookends the movie, played at the very start and very end, is so very lovely and angsty that it makes sitting through this film-in-need-of Prozac worth it.

It's Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter. Listen and adore. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in twenty years. The movie's depressing. The song...transports. Go listen, and tell me what you think. :D

And so it is just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
most of the time
And so it is the shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her sky

I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes...

And so it is just like you said it should be
We'll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is the colder water
The Blower's Daughter
The pupil in denial

I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes...

Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
Leave it all behind?

I can't take my mind off of you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off of you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind...
my mind...my mind...
'Til I find somebody new

I was depressed, for about ten minutes. Really, I didn't like the characters enough to care. It was well-acted (Natalie Portman was fantastic), but eh. I didn't like any of them. It was a well-done film without a point, IMO.
