In nursing school I learned that the highest priority for patients is to be free of pain. There are pain clinics, pain specialists, pain medications, and in-services at work about how to ease pain. And now we have something that inflicts pain on purpose?

Yeah. I mean, hello, haven't they read enough HP to know that *pain alone* can damage a person for good? Not that HP should have to be the only authority or anything, but it's a hugely well-known illustration. Man, just the psychological effects, nevermind potential physiological damage.

I think anyone who intends to use this or to order anyone else to use it or to authorize anyone else to use this should first have to have it used on themselves, repeatedly, for slightly longer than the maximum allowable setting, to be actually realistic about how they'd probably use it in practice, and maybe *then* decide just how non-damaging it is. I'm beyond horrified.
