another hero, another mindless crime behind the curtain in the pantomime

I went to the most fantastic vigil tonight. It was more like a rally.

The antiwar movement isn't back on track yet, but it's getting there. I'm moved, I'm stirred, and I'm going to finally live up to my New Years' resolution to become more active in causes that matter. Cindy Sheehan is a voice crying in the wilderness, and I admire her, and I'll do everything I can to get the message out so I never, ever ever, have to live her experience.

Such a lovely night. There were Blue Star and Gold Star families there. I saw some old friends, some I didn't expect, and some I did, such as the enduringly wonderful Rod Driver and his lovely wife Carole, who are activists, pacifists, and all around fantastic people. The world needs more people like them. *loves* They're also celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary next month. They seem to get younger every year--I can't imagine they're old enough for a fiftieth.

So many people came forward to speak, including one Vietnam vet who said only one person, his father-in-law, ever thanked him for serving in Vietnam. Thank you, Ed, for being a hero. And welcome home.

One sure thing came from this evening. I hope never to be a Blue Star Mom, and I pray to every God ever that I'm never a Gold Star Mom.
