I've cleaned my kitchen and washed its floor, and it's only ten-thirty! I have clearly gone 'round the bend.

I'm going out to buy my poor starving kitties some food, but first--[livejournal.com profile] diamond_dust06 has brought back an old meme, so I give you:

1. Ron/Draco. Totally Not Believable. They HATE each other. I know, you say, 'Oho! Harry and Draco hate each other, too!' It's different, I tell you. Harry and Draco feed off of their animosity. There's a dynamic there that's not even on the same level. Ron and Draco are the youngest generation of the Wizarding version of the Hatfields and the McCoys, and they will never get past that. And besides...(see #5).

2. Hermione/Draco. See above. When Draco says 'filthy mudblood', he means it. He doesn't give her the respect deserving of lint, never mind think of her as potential girlfriend material.

3. Harry/Ginny is canon, whether you, or I, or anyone likes it. Harry/Hermione will never be canon. Get over it. I don't like H/G, but um. The author is the god of the universe she creates.

4. Seme and uke. I not only don't get it, I hate the very idea of it. Why can't a fair-haired, slender guy be dominant in a relationship? What he have to be submissive just because he's fairer and shorter than the other one? What does size and colouring have to do with personality? It. Doesn't. Make. Sense. Maybe this is why I can't get into Anime.

5. Ron is straight, except in matters Trio, because that's different. That's the Trio, the Holy Trinity, the Three Musketeers, all for one, one for all, OT3--you get the picture. But yeah, Ron is so straight. So, so straight. A zero on Kinsey. Maybe even a -1.

6. Draco is not strikingly handsome. He's got pointy features and is only a shade or two shy of Albino. He's not ugly, either, but um. Not a pinup boy.

7. For that matter, Tom Felton is not strikingly handsome, either. Rupert Grint is much better looking than Tom, as much of a w00bie as our fisherguy is. Again, not ugly, but. Which is why I think that visually, Tom is perfect as Draco.

8. I don't get fics that feature very minor characters, i.e. Hannah Abbot/Blaise Zabini, Lee Jordan/Terry Boot, that kind of thing. If someone's writing stuff like that, why not write original stories? Because these characters have almost NO backstory at all.

9. Alan Rickman, as much as I completely adore him, is too old to be Snape. I love his portrayal of Snape, but he's still too old by at least ten years. The Marauders, etc. in the movie were aged up to fit with Alan's Snape, and as much as I love David Thewliss and Gary Oldman as Remus and Sirius, they're too old, too. These people should be in their late thirties, early forties tops.

10. Sirius? Is deader 'n dirt. He isn't pining, he's passed on! Do I think we'll hear from him again? Sure. But from the Great Beyond, nothing more.

Oh, and:

BONUS!!

11. I like Harry's hair in the GoF film (also Ron's). Remember, this is right in the middle of the post-Nirvana grunge era. Teenage boys grew their hair.

Okay, now, off to buy cat food. I'll try to contain my joy.

Actually, David Thewlis is 42. He and Jason Isaacs are the same age as I am. So he was about 40-41 while they were shooting PoA. Gaz doesn't look too bad -- it doesn't bother me that Sirius looked a little older than he should have but he was 45-46 in PoA. Rickman's the one who is really way too old. I'm still sorry they couldn't get Tim Roth.

Okay, 42 isn't bad. I actually wanted Ewan McGregor for Remus, but he's probably actually too young by a bit.

I actually wanted Clive Owen as Sirius (even though I love Gary Oldman) or Robson Green, both of whom I think are in their late 30s.

I don't see Ewan as Remus as much as I love him. I would've liked to have seen Ralph Fiennes as Remus personally. :)

Oh I know who Jason Carter is. He once managed to ruin a gorgeous silk suit he was wearing by pouring an entire glass of beer over himself thanks to a conversation with me. :)

Photographic Evidence (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RagaDal/janjason.jpg). I apologise for how scary I look (and how FAT). Sadly, just moments later, that poor silk suit was covered in beer. He got way too excited about Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery for his own good and knocked the glass off the table in front of him and all over him, head to toe.

Yeah, he was just way too excited by the film which had just opened (and hardly anyone had seen it). I wish I could download the memory of him shouting "Do I make you horny? Do I? Do I?" and flailing his arms about just before the beer went flying. It was hysterical.

She-Wolf was a great not-seen enough horror/comedy series that was on about 15 yrs ago. The first year it was set in the UK and written/produced by Brits. The second year, it moved to Los Angeles and got more American. I have a few episodes on tape-- I'd kill for it on dvd.

Anyway, one of the episodes was about a haunted/cursed circus which was kind of a take off on Something Wicked This Way Comes. Jason played the cursed Ringmaster who is a lot sexier than Jonathan Pryce as Mr. Dark.

and yes, definitely fanon!Sirius. :)

I think he's selectively photogenic. Not to mention, when he's obviously been up for a couple of days and is half-asleep on his feet, he still manages to look better than most uber-photogenic people do on their best days.

And? He's a nice guy. He charmed my socks off when I met him at Worldcon.

Neil and I have been net correspondents since around 1990. He's always charming and always lovely to me when I get to see him in person (and he gives good hugs and smooches). I'm the person who first named him "Unca Neil" and according to him, am one of the few people who is actually allowed to call him that. I'm really bummed that I've missed him on this signing tour but I've sent messages via other friends so he knows I'm still out here. :)

I am agreeing with all except (4), cuz I don't know who Seme and Uke are. Harry's hair - yes, is lovely. Ron - yes, is straight.

Although Rickman is PERFECT for Snape, absolutely perfect, if here weren't so damn old. I just squint and pretend I don't see his jowls. :o)

I got this explanation from here:

The seme/uke scenario: Portraying the lovers as equals acting on mutual agreement is simply not done. At the very least the seme must push the relationship and the uke must resist it (at first).

The height rule: The seme must always and without fail be taller than the uke. If the heights and natures of the original characters don't fit, they are adjusted, e.g. a short agressive character is either made taller so that he can be seme, or his behaviour feminized to turn him into a proper uke.

The hair color rule: The uke has fair hair, the seme has dark hair. As with the height, adjustments are often made to make the characters fit the rule, though it's not as strictly "enforced".

It's just Silly.

Except for number 8, I agree with you completely!

I see minor character fic as a way to flesh out JKR's universe. Why not create a backstory for a character? Sure, you could be writing original fic, but the odds are you're here and writing fanfic because you love the universe. Having said that, I've not written any and I doubt I ever will, because I have more Harry-centered bunnies than I will ever be able to write... :-P
